IceShadow’s pool thread 2023

New to 2023 - Wife Doesn't Immediately Shoot Down Salt Cell.

Instead she was asking good questions to me about longevity of the cell, costs, what kind of salt we'd get, etc. So I'd say when we get a little set aside this year we can go for it. I'll post a thread to discuss that separate from this one. :D

OK Dustin, we go back, so here's your specific maths to go over with the CFO. :)

1 gallon of 10% is 5 FC for 20k gallons.

$4 gallon = $0.80 per FC
$5 gallon = $1 per FC
$6 gallon = $1.20 per FC
$7 gallon = $1.40 per FC.

*best I can do at the moment is high $5s at Walmart, but you've done well in the past, here's hoping that continues. (y)

IC40 has 3502 lifetime FC in 20k gallons, currently $1600, for $0.46 per FC.

RJ-45 has 5004 lifetime FC (probably overstated by circupool), currently $1380 for $0.28 per FC. Even if it *only* puts out the 1.4 lbs a day like the IC40, it's $0.40 per FC.

Replacement models don't need the ($500?) controller and save 30% more going forward.

Perfect. Thank you, I'll share with her tonight. :D

Got it going. Had the weirdest time getting it to prime - it would pretty much prime and then lose it. Was getting frustrated - then realized the skimmer flap was stuck up. >.> Fixed that and it primed fine.

Got it with a quick vacuum, pulling out about 5-6 skimmer socks of crud, then threw in the robot. It’s running in the 45 degree water so that’s good. Got a gallon of chlorine in it too so it can start sanitizing. Letting the pump run full bore. Also turned the heater on but set to 60 so the water is at least workable. :)

I’ll do the rest tomorrow when it’s light again after work.

Ok so. Did a full round of vacuuming and now that the heater got the pool to 60° was able to have my arm in the pool long enough to remove the deeper intake plug. So that is all set.

Robot cleaned out and running. Pool cover fully folded and put away.

Testing - CYA registered as under 30, so I have 5 lbs in a mesh bag hanging in front of a return (to add 30ppm). FC down to 3ppm so put in another gallon. TA is down to 40 so I’m gonna need to add 5lbs of baking soda tomorrow.

Filter is running nonstop to clear up the dirt from the winter. Current fireball:

This is sorcery 🧙 do you have a specific method? I bought a large rolling trash can to put my covers (leaf & solid) in but at this point it looks like the leaf one will barely fit in there. I still don’t understand how in the world they got them in the boxes originally.

I folded mine to a 4X20 strip and rolled it. Then I used 3 ropes front/middle/back to hang it from the garage rafters. (Tight to the beams though for head clearance).
When I threw the last one away it wouldn’t even fit all the way into the big green garbage can! Of course I was just wadding it up. They usually take up a huge portion of my she shed.
