Hi all, I have a question.
As all we know SWGS don’t generate chlorine at cold temperatures,
Is it a good idea to heat up the spa to 65 degrees, generate chlorine in the spa and transfer the spa water to pool?

Probably easier to just add chlorine to the pool and run the pump. Your method requires heating the spa (don't know what your gas is..$$), and significantly raising FC, which you won't want to exceed SLAM level. Finally, the 500 gallons or whatever in the spa at say FC = 20 with ONE dump would raise your pool FC about .5ppm Easier and cheaper to just use LC.

Regularly heating cold water will create corrosive condensation that will damage your heater.

I never understood this. So heating a spa with WATER Temp above 50 deg 4-5 days a week on a Pentair MasterTemp should offer no risk of damage. Is that correct?
No, that is not correct.

The Pentair MasterTemp Heaters say:[

  • Operating this heater continuously at water temperatures below 68° F. (20° C) will cause harmful condensation and will damage the heater and void the warranty.
  • When starting the heater for the swimming season with a water temperature below 50° F (10° C), the heater may be used to heat the water; however, make sure that the heater operates continuously until the water temperature reaches the heater’s minimum setting of 68° F (20° C).
Everytime you cycle the heater from 50F it creates corrosive condensation until the water is around 68F. You can do it a few times without damage. The corrosive condensation accumulates and running the heater regularly that way will reduce the life of the heater. Don’t be surprised if your heat exchanger leaks after a few years of operation.

Again I’m just talking about the SPA
The heater does not care where the cold water is coming from.
