Trying to get my pool clear. Using SLAM method to the best of my ability lol.

Following your advice and installed recommended chlorine from math calculator to SLAM to recommend 12ppm with a CYA of 30. I put it in at 10pm when the family got out of the pool. I'll test for when I get out the shower with my FAS-DPD test kit and add more chlorine if needed and will retest in the morning to see how much I lose overnight. How much loss is acceptable to be considered a finished SLAM and ready to just maintain? Also thank you for all your responses and helping me through this process. 🙏🏿 I truly appreciate it

Read through the directions & follow exactly - you must test after your last dose to know exactly where you are starting from- a loss of 1ppm or less & cc’s of .5ppm or less is acceptable
Overnight Chlorine Loss Test
If u pass then you can maintain target fc levels for your cya at all times FC/CYA Levels
Allowing fc to fall below minimum for your cya will allow algae & nasties to grow.
It is safe to swim anywhere between min & slam fc level for your cya so long as u can see the bottom of the pool.
Many choose to maintain a little higher than target levels so they never broach minimum especially due to higher uv days or instances of high bather loads.

Get rid of that other app if it says your chlorine level at 2ppm is fine.

I am popping to say THANKS to @Mdragger88 for doing the heavy lifting on this thread. @Nicholasholmes424 your pool has come a LONG way! Well done!

I am going to give you three jobs for today:
1.Please fill out your signature. Create Your Signature - Further Reading
2. Jump in the pool with a toothbrush (SAY WHAT??) and clean all around everything-returns, skimmer face, ladder parts, ect. We just had one SLAM stall until the cleaned around the returns. Some *stuff* came off and they were able to pass the OCLT for the first time afterwards!
3.List your testing like this as it is easier for us to read:
FC
CC
PH
TA
CH
CYA

HAPPPY FATHER'S DAY
I have a lot of scaling on the side walls from previous owner neglect. It comes off but it's an extreme task to remove from a pool this large with a toothbrush or any brush lol. At 10:00 am EST test results
FC 12.6
CC .4
PH 7.5 (Between 7.4 and 7.6)
TA 120
CH 400
CYA 30 ISH (dot disappeared slightly above 30. 1/4 full at the top after it flares out)
Water Temp 90
Pool is very clear. Best ever seen so far.

Did u test to confirm your fc level after your last dose of the night? Then test before sun shined on the pool in the am? If not then u can’t be sure of actual loss. U can try again tonight to be certain. If u pass in the morning then u just maintain target 🎯 fc levels for your cya at all times to ensure it never drops below minimum & hopefully never have to slam again. That’s the goal after all! A trouble free pool !
That’s the great thing about testing your Own water & having a specific procedure like the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test along with the other slam exit criteria- you can have actual confirmation that there’s no organics remaining vs just depending upon how u think the water looks & hoping for the best.
After u are sure u have passed the oclt- you may want to increase cya to the 40’s to help combat daily fc loss from the summer sun ☀️ be sure to up the fc chlorine target accordingly.
As far as the scaling goes - switch on csi tracking in PoolMath
Low ch is not an issue in vinyl pools without heaters but high ch is a problem in all pools.
Here’s more info on that 👇

CYA approximately 30 or slightly below. FC is 6.5 right now at 930PM EST it was 12.6 this morning at 10am EST. We have been in the pool for around 4 hrs. Should I do a overnight test from here?16556888243158336918055336694845.jpg16556889229115201541853866036976.jpgScreenshot_20220619-213717_Photos.jpg

Yes but you still have more killing and/or filtering to go. I can tell by the fireball your light is throwing like a driving a car in the fog at night. The further the beam shines out, the more crud is in the water. You're getting close but still have some to go. Notice how this one shines every which way but towards the shallow end ? I think he also needs to get his CYA in order as he keeps saying slightly under 30 or 30ish. That will give the UV an upper hand all day. Are you checking your CYA in sunlight as that's the best way.
Going to get CYA this morning the walmart was out and pool store was closed. Going to raise to 45 and maintain after SLAM. 95 degree days here and shade leaves my pool around 10 so full sun for 10 hrs

FC16 at 9pm to 14 at 9 AM this morning. Raised my CYA to 40 did a lot of wall scrubbing yesterday due to bad calcium scaling.Fine green dust particles have settled that wasn't collected by polaris. Should I maintain 16 ppm all day or raise now to 16 and again at sunset. Going to vacuum on filter shortly. Water looks amazing but IK still not finished. Debris picked up from polaris is scaling deposits and scouring pad debris.
