I’m having a continuous problem with my spa draining to pool level overnight. I’d posted previously on this and have replaced the check valve, replaced all o rings in both suction and return valves and I still have same problem.
Any thoughts on where this leak might be? Thanks for your time.

I read through your previous thread and nothing stands out. My next step would be to try to eliminate possible sources of the leak. Are you able to plug any or all inlets and outlets in the spa?

B,

Since you have done all the normal stuff, the only way you are going to find the leak is to let it drain down until it stops, or add plugs like JohnT recommends.

Your spa can only leak in a couple of places.

The spa jets.. Back to the pool or into the ground
The light.. Into the ground
The Spa Drain.. Back to the pool or into the ground
The gunite due to a crack.. Unlikely
The spa spillover line, if a separate line

Normally, if the spa drains down to just below the jets, then it is the check valve line. If the Spa drains down to just below the light, it is the light. If it drains down well below the light it is the spa drain.

Of course this depends on how your spa was built, as the water will only drain down to the level of the pool.

Unfortunately, it is kind of hard to troubleshoot if the spa is in use.

Thanks,

Jim R.

b,

It looks to me that the spa water and pool water are at the same height. Is that true?

If so, letting it drain down, won't really help you find the leak, as everything is still in play.

Does your spa spillover into your pool, or does it have its own skimmer?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Jim,
Yes it does drain down to pool level and it does spill over into the pool after the pump is running.

b,

Then the only way to troubleshoot the problem is by plugging the return jets, filling the spa with water and seeing if it still drains down.

If it does not, you will know the problem is something to do with the jets. If it still drains down, you can eliminate the jet side as the problem.

Then plug the spa drain and do the same test.

Thanks,

Jim R.

What is the procedure to plug the returns?

Ok, got my plugs and plugged the 6 returns in spa after pump shut down last night and much to my chagrin, the spa drained down again overnight. I guess spa light and lastly spa drain is next? Any technical commentary on which first or technique involved?

Since it's draining back to pool level, it's most likely either the drain line (likely) or the gunite (unlikely). I'd say spa light is unlikely as if both the drains and returns are isolated and functioning properly, then if it drained via the spa light, it would likely drain lower than the pool.

Pull the drain covers and plug the lines. If that stops the draining, disassemble and inspect the pool/spa drain (intake) diverter valve.

B,

My "guess" is the spa drain. Actually, a leaking Intake Jandy valve.

Just have to plug the spa drain and see if it still leaks.

Ok I’ll plug the spa drain next. I know it’s a simple move, but I’ve forgotten how to drain the spa into the pool to get to the drain.

B,

I am not sure how to do it with the IntelliTouch, but you have to be in the Service mode.

You could also just manually move the Intake actuator, using the little 3-way switch, and set the Valve so that in the pool mode you are sucking water from the spa.

Thanks,

Happy 4th to all!
Continuation of my problem:
Drained spa and plugged both drains in spa then ran pump as usual till 6 pm.
Once again, spa drain down overnight just as before in previous photo. As was discussed earlier, shouldn’t be spa light since it never drains to that level. Any more thoughts?
