New Pool Build Fort Worth TX

Will your pool deck be coming up to your current patio? If so, are you doing anything special make the transition seem natural?

Asking because we're about to build and have an existing stamped concrete patio that is going to be impossible to match so we're on the fence about how to make the transition look natural. Our pool deck is going to be a completely different color.

Well looky here! Hi Kimber from Kimkats and my mini me :kim: I am a little late to the party but it looks like it is going to be a fun one!!! Thanks for letting us come along for the ride!

It really sounds like your PB is on top of things but I do have control issues sooooooooo I have a "job" for you. Go out and measure everything. Is it long, wide, deep, etc enough? Add about 6" for the gunite and plaster. NOW is the time to fix or tweak it if needed/wanted.

I am really hopeful someone can be there when they shot the gunite. A lot of times the crew will have an idea, question, or concern about something. It is better for you to make the decisions on what you want out of your pool.

 Make sure ask all of your questions here so others can learn from you!

Kim:kim:

Hi Kim!

I love your mini me ?. And I was feeling decidedly left out by not getting a note from you telling me to measure, after seeing you write that on so many other posts! Lol ?. Yes, I am a lurker and have been reading as many pool build posts as I can.

Never fear, we are making sure to measure everything today!

My husband will be present when they shoot the gunite, and the foreman will be there too. And I believe the PB will be onsite. So we should be covered.

I’m so excited for Monday... probably the only time anyone will hear me say “Yay, it’s Monday” and it not be a snarky comment. ??

Hi! Yes it will be meeting the patio. But we are lucky because it will bump up to the bottom of the patio steps. And our patio is Oklahoma stone which we are also doing on the pool coping, so it should tie in nicely.

Since your coping will also be Oklahoma stone it might look nice to do a “tile” border of Oklahoma stone between your new pool deck and existing patio. Then it will all look tied together.

I missed this one too. And I'm always checking in these days.

very cool design! I like it!

oh man make sure u are there for the whole shoot! My wife is so glad she was home too. My builder also stayed onsite the whole day. I felt bad at times. These guys had 6 people staring at them all day but all of us was there to give onsite and answer questions they had. Having my builder there was huge cause some technical stuff for the steps came up that I would never had been able to answer. What was awesome for us was my builder's main detail guy (tile coping plumbing stuff like that) is Italian but als speaks fluent Spanish so we had a perfect line of communication.

deff be home for the shoot and if you can have the builder there even better in my eyes. Plus that is the most fun day of the build I think. Was so cool to watch. But I'm into that kinda stuff.

jim

Thanks Jim! And yes, my husband will be home when they shoot the gunite ?

LOL I have NO idea how I missed your thread but I found it now!

Bet you can't wait to get YOUR set of links then LOL

Make sure to have hubby share any ideas or changes they make when the shoot is done. We can all learn from them this way.

I saw your post about the need pool build in DFW and had a similar experience.
We went with chlorine, buy I didn't find this forum until 1+ year after build. We are 1.5 years in.
Question:
We did pavers too... Belgard. You?
Have you had trouble with the sand between the pavers?
Much of ours has been washed out, and it looks bad...
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Updates and pictures! So we were told by the pool builder that they size the pool from the edge of the wooden form. So we measured from there and from just inside the rebar. Using the wooden form to form measurements our pool is actually 2 feet longer than is in our specs. It should be 31x18. And it measured 33x18.

The PB crew are extremely hard workers! They were working late into the night on Friday to get the job finished and took extra time to make sure they picked up all trash from the area! Then they showed up at 6:30 this morning to start getting ready for gunite !!

Without further ado... here are the pics I took from Friday and the ones my husband has sent me on the gunite process this morning:

OH yeah! Look at that work! SWEET! Nice to have a bigger pool but I sure hope they have enough tile and stuff for the extra size.

Now are you ready to bond with your pool? aka water it! You can hand water it with hoses but when you get tired of that use a sprinkler or two to help out.

Guess what time it is!!!! Time for you to get YOUR set of links! LOL

Make sure to ask any and all questions you might have no matter how small! We have all been where you are at one point.

It is also time to ask your PB what test kit they will be providing. Let us know so we can fill in any holes.

Make sure to ask hubby if they had any tweaks or ideas when they were shooting.

LOVE it! Nice details like the step on the bench! Well done! Now your hubby and start bonding with it LOL

Kim:kim:

I love my step on the bench for getting out! I wish I would have thought to put one in our spa. My cousin has one in their spa and it is great for getting out, or for when you want to sit up out of the warm water for a few minutes.

Thanks everyone!

Our PB was awesome and they are the ones that suggested the step on the bench and in the spa.

I realized I didn't add any pictures of the spa, so here are a couple.

Sweet!

Time to water! The more the better! You could be like me and forget I had a sprinkler on and watered it all night! Lol

i used a sprinkler in the middle. Let it run for like 1.5 hrs or so and then got in and did the walls more by hand with the sprinkler in hand.

LOL at forgetting you left the sprinkler on all night. That sounds like something I would do! It was actually fun to get in the pool and walk around it... we even took the dogs in there and let them walk around, lol.

We are supposed to water twice a day for 5 - 7 days.

My husband said they are coming to do electrical and hook up all of the pool equipment today.

Add a timer to keep in the house that is just for pool stuff! Set the timer for when you are adding or removing water or running the pump on high to mix it up good. It has saved me some forgetful times!!
