Solar pool cover & reel advice for in-ground pool

I'm resurrecting this thread because it hits exactly on my questions. I just bought a new cover. I didn't go looking for advice first, and chose clear, but I think my indoor plaster pool poses different challenges. The old blue cover finally disintegrated, but it was at least 10 years old...

    My un-interesting bucket test

...and you clicked on this thread anyway, huh? I guess I'm not the only one here who's been a little bored lately! I think I was suffering a little boredom-induced anxiety. My pool has a small tolerance for variances in water level. There's no coping lip, just vertical tile, so too much...

Don't Forget To Lay In Some Emergency Chlorine!

It's really not - especially if you have the right brush. I have the kind with just a small scoop on the top. It moves a tremendous amount of water - a few minutes of forceful brushing mixes better than than hours of pump time.

does anyone actually LIKE doing a manual vacuum of their pool....

For me it's exactly like painting: a rewarding, relaxing if not fun activity with annoying prep at the beginning and clean-up after.

Friend's new pool - I need help with this valve please

Thanks Roscoe. So there's no rinse setting? It's just regular flow or reverse?

Friend's new pool - I need help with this valve please

Friends of mine just bought a home with an IG pool. Yesterday I delivered my house-warming gifts, which of course were a TF-100 and a SpeedStir. (I forgot to buy a bow. I blame Covid) The setup is mostly what I expected, except for the valve and the waste line. The latter goes out of the...

    Strategy for running VS pump

Yes, I think that's probably overkill. More to the point, it's not taking advantage of your pump's potential to save energy and wear (assuming it has a programmable controller?). When planning a VS pump schedule, keep in mind that energy consumption isn't linear: half the speed may consume...

    TF-100 test kit question

Her CYA is only 30, and she already has tablets and didn’t mention having CYA on-hand, so I recommended that she do just that.

    TF-100 test kit question

Well since 40 is low, you could carefully continue to use tablets for a while instead of buying CYA. Clorox hasn't been our friend lately - I don't even know if they sell regular bleach anymore. "Cloromax Technology" includes additives that you don't want in your pool. "A friend told me"...

Where to buy DE in Canada

I was going to give my Canadian (ON) friend some DE for his sand filter, but then we thought better of sending him through a border crossing with a ziplock full of a fine white powder...
