I opened my pool today and CYA is at 20 vs 50 when I closed it for the fall. We had some heavy rain this winter so since I drained a few times I thought it would be lower, but not by this much. I also thought that CYA could ONLY be reduced by draining, but now I read the following on TFP...

Thanks mknauss, that's about what I am adding now. It has been 2.5 years since I have had any issues with my pool water. No cloudiness, no algae, no nothin'. Thanks to the forum, and you in particular, have helped me answer all my questions. Joe

OK, thanks, so with TA of around 80 for new tap water, I should expect my PH to rise when adding water? If so, I can just add MA as needed, but since it seemed an unusually high amount, just checking nothing else was wrong. I check FC daily and CYA is 40 so I am OK there

OK measured fresh tap water and the TA is about 80. My test kits says the pools water should be 100-120 for a chlorine pool, but frankly I do not know what to do about this? I never remembered adding muriatic acid so regularly. If this is just a fundamental of my water source I guess there...

I only use liquid chlorine and my PH usually goes up very slowly. I usually have to adjust with Muriatic acid once a month or so. Lately it is rising very rapidly with having to add some muriatic acid weekly. I have added some water, not much, an no other chemicals, any ideas? ...or is it...

OK. Two floaters just does not seem enough for me, so got two more. Four floaters seems like a lot though :)

I use Liquid Chlorine 100% of the time...except on vacation. The floaters with tabs are OK, but I have had mixed results. What is the opinion about tabs in the skimmer if I set the pump timer to run 24/7 while gone?
