    Post-SLAM, can a vacuum robot+filter replace a vacuum?

On the number of SLAMs that I have performed, I've always worked with a robot and filter to clean it up. I've found that the robot does help to kick up the dead algae and this helps to get it to the filter but of course it's really important to continue to do daily brushing as well.

    Mild algae & cloudy

Yep keep it at 20 FC until you successfully pass all 3 criteria for completion of the SLAM. Otherwise it might set you back.

    Mustard Algea or just dirt/pollen?

Yep the 3 criteria that you have passed the SLAM are 1.) Your pool is clear- no signs of algae dead or alive 2.) You pass the OCLT 3.) Your CC's are 0.5 or less You must tick all 3 to declare you have it licked- otherwise there is a good chance it comes back again and you go through the cycle...

    Mustard Algea or just dirt/pollen?

Just make sure you keep at the SLAM going until there are no signs of any of the dead algae in the water. Hopefully you should find that it will clear up over time. Remember to keep running the filter 24/7. Always pays to keep recording your FC levels as you go along as it allows you to track...

    Mustard Algea or just dirt/pollen?

Hi Doddsy. For what it's worth i think what you are describing is dead algae. It is hard to tell from the pictures. If it puffs away when you brush it then that is a tell tale sign. Unless it's fine dust. Dirt and sand just tends to move around. It only takes 1 occasion to drop below the...

What is this? Algae? Dirt? Dead algae?

When you use the traditional way of 'shocking' the pool by raising the chlorine temporarily you only keep it at bay rather than completely eradicating it for good. Algae tends to consume chlorine very quickly so you run out of FC and the algae comes back. Therefore the recurring algae means that...

What is this? Algae? Dirt? Dead algae?

Id say it's probably dead algae. What test kit are you using?

    G'day from Australia!

Welcome to TFP and bring on the summer times. :) Your pool is pretty small so you may consider using the Temporary Pools Guide for maintaining your pool. However the Clear Choice Labs test kit is a quality kit which will produce reliable results.

Aussie Help - Chlorine / bleach with hidden extras?

Welcome to the TFP. Yep the Australian bleach is generally weak and not good value for money compared to the liquid chlorine you can buy either from Bunnings or your local pool store (just compare prices for the cheaper option). The granular chlorine you mentioned has calcium in it which you...

Need Guidance on Use of Pool Cover

One of the other characteristics of CYA is that it buffers the harshness of chlorine. Keeping in mind that the effectiveness of FC is relative to the CYA level. Therefore, running a higher FC to suit a higher CYA level is often less harsh than a traditional pool running a lower FC with little or...

Need Guidance on Use of Pool Cover

Living in Dubbo, you'll definitely want to get your CYA up to 80. Personally, I would tend to keep your FC up at the higher end for insurance.

    What FC to maintain?

In summer it would generally be at least once a day if using bleach or liquid chlorine.

Need Guidance on Use of Pool Cover

I keep my cover on pretty much the whole time during summer to conserve the water and save my chlorine. Obviously we take it off when we swim which should be ample time to provide some UV rays to break down the CCS. In the off season I will take it off for an hour or so about once a week. You...

Setting up new fill, CH color change

I’m assuming your using the Clearchoice kit. If it’s going clear rather than baby blue it doesn’t sound right to me. Have you reviewed the testing instructions to ensure that you are doing your testing correctly?
