What am I looking at here? It's a fine brown sediment like substance which I have to vacuum up but seems to reappear daily. The pool was recently shocked and has regular chlorine.
I have various test kits, none of which are great. Mostly take samples to the local pool shop, who seem fairly reliable operators.
It just seems to me that I'd have vacuumed up all the dead algae by now, but it still seems to keep coming!
When you use the traditional way of 'shocking' the pool by raising the chlorine temporarily you only keep it at bay rather than completely eradicating it for good. Algae tends to consume chlorine very quickly so you run out of FC and the algae comes back. Therefore the recurring algae means that you need to maintain SLAM levels of chlorine, which is our suggested method of conquering it for good. A good test kit- preferably the Clearchoice version is what you need to execute the process successfully.
Might I add we are not great fans of pool stores and their testing
Australia is a big broad land and you don't say were you are.... some areas have had severe dusty weather and there is even some fires around that could be dropping fine ash .... hard to make a call on algae or dirt without test results and likely an overnight chlorine loss test
Over here Clearchoice labs are the go to people for accurate test kits
