New Owner/Builder Pool in Las Vegas

OK, here's a lesson for those O/B going with spray decking, they actually put something called "knock down" on prior to adding the final sealer/color to your decking. I freaked out when I saw this color, it is nothing like the color we picked and, when we opened our back door, the sun reflecting off it would blind you. Called deck guy and he explained the process to me, I was sweating it for a few minutes.

Finishing with the color/sealer today and plaster tomorrow. Really sweating the plaster tomorrow as it could reach 108 - 110. So much so that I'm getting in touch with a water truck company to see what they would charge me to fill my pool, off of the hydrant in front of my neighbors house (I assume they'd have enough hose).

Closing in on the home stretch!

Looking great!!! Thanks for the info ok spray deck. I would have freaked too!
Thanks, we're really happy we went with as much decking as we did. We do a lot of entertaining and it will create some great space for us.

As and O/B I'm also glad we went with the same company for our tile, decking and plaster phase. Seems like they're taking extra care (or maybe it seems like it to me) protecting tile, concrete etc. Also, they can't blame anything on a previous sub. I have two other families who want to come see their work after they're done for their projects too.

Whewwww-eeeee! That's fabulous! You have done an amazing job. You always have an back-up career if you should need one! I think you were smart to go with the same company for those different phases. Of course they would be more careful. I have noticed that around here, different crews don't seem to have a lot of respect for each other. In fact, they seem to do a lot of grousing about what the previous crew did. In one case it's warranted, but not always.

I do not understand why the installers of various pool products don't explain some of these processes. I would have freaked out also over the color of the deck. A simple explanation before they did that step would have saved you some angst and their time in a post answer. I guess they are so used to what they do that they forget we are not aware of those things.

No wonder you have others wanting to see the work of your pool. It's a show place! Take care. Suz.

So I hear they plastered yesterday, unfortunately I wasn't there for the process (I'm enjoying the great weather in TX). Wife did send me some pictures from last night right after they finished and put the garden hoses in. Can't wait to get home and see how it turned out in person. I'll post some better pictures tomorrow.

Yea hard to believe pool is complete (scuppers still need to be installed, they're on their way) and in 44 days. Actually could have been done sooner had it not been for some business travel and a couple of other delays. But I'll take 44 days. I'm here in Texas and cannot believe how much rain there is and I know there are people trying to build here and it's causing major delays. Never experienced rain like I did here yesterday.

Yep, have my test kit, ready to get home and start testing and enjoy 112 degree weather this weekend.

Now on to the landscaping . . .

Got home late last night (thx TX for ordering the rain while I was there, never seen it rain so hard), fired-up the pool equipment, turned lights on and brushed the pool prior to turning in. Woke-up this morning, brushed, fixed a skimmer issue and took a few photos. After the noon brushing I took some more with direct overhead sunlight. Tested out the spray deck in 101 degree direct sunlight, not bad. Water is a little cloudy due to the plaster dust, got the pump running 24/7 for the next 6 days and with brushing three times a day I'm hoping dust is gone soon.

Going to be tough not getting in this weekend as we're hitting 112, wishing I'd started about 1 month earlier on my project.

The plaster is quartzscapes blue. I'll get a close-up of it when the dust dies down. Something else that we found interesting, after all the decking went in the pool actually seems "small" unless you're standing on the side of it. Looks awesome out our windows. Can't wait to get the water features going, they're back-ordered.

This is so exciting!!!! You're right about the pool looking small! But all it takes is a quick look at your specs in your signature to know otherwise. I think when the pool clears up and that water starts sparkling and dazzling, it will look bigger. When it does, take a few shots from inside, so we can see it the way you guys get to see it.

How long do you have to wait to get in the pool during the brushing phase? That would be so hard to wait. Suz.

Are you sure you're not going to accidentally fall in while brushing the pool?
I was very clumsy during that phase.
Trust me, thought has gone through my mind.

I think once the landscaping is in too and the yard has some depth around it things will go back into perspective, right now there's just so much decking.

Plaster guy doesn't want us in it for a week, trust me, in this heat, it's going to be very tough, however, I don't want to risk my plaster finish. What's odd is two of my neighbors both had pool parties within days of their pools being built. I can't imagine doing it with all the plaster dust out there.

As the plaster is still curing they don't want it 'poked' accidentally.
Also the chemistry of the pool is not ideal, (FC is generally very low, little to no stabilizer etc).
They don't want more work due to our impatience.
