What to do in the meantime?

I have a 2.5 cup measuring cup that I ONLY use for putting my chlorine in.

Do NOT, I repeat NOT, get the water out of the pool for testing with this cup...............you will test high FC...........don't ask me how I know LOL

This morning. Looks a little better, probably because we picked up a thing that rolls along the bottom with a water hose attached, works way better than what we had been trying to do

Then for sure you lucked out. Often we see just the opposite where a member has very high and needs to drain their pool to lower the cya. In your case, add enough cya to raise your level to 60ppm as you're losing chlorine at a rabid pace. From there adjust your chlorine level as shown in the [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA] chart.

Correction......only raise the CYA to 40ppm before starting the SLAM. Only raise it to 60ppm AFTER the SLAM is complete.

I would add 2ppm FC (6cups) of regular bleach into the pool every evening after the sun sets with the pump running until you can add your CYA. Once you get the CYA added then you can start the SLAM Process.

Speaking of which, please ignore my previous statement of adding enough CYA to reach the 60ppm. I was overlooking the fact that your pool is greenish. Rather than going up to 60, only take it to 40ppm CYA before you start the SLAM. After your SLAM is complete, then you can raise your CYA up to 60.

Just went out to the shed and found an old bucket in the corner of CYA! I think about 5 lbs, not sure how old it is, does it matter?

Its nu-do or wu-clo conditioner/stabalizer. Its a powder, and it says to put it in the skimmer.

I also found 8 oz of the same brand, but its a blue liquid called algeastroy.

I added bleach just a few minutes ago

Mary, the reason we tell you to put the Cya in a sock and leave it in the skimmer, is so it doesn't get backwashed out. Technically it's usually fine to just pour it in, but you will have to backwash before it all dissolves. In your Case, fill one or two socks with the five pounds. Double check that amount. Most cans are 4lb or 8 lb. I don't know that brand, so it may be five lb new. 4-5 pounds will be just about right. Once it's in the sock(s) and in the skimmer, assume it's in the pool. Give the socks a vigorous squeezing often.

Next, it's time to add bleach, and shoot for 16 PPM FC. It's so close, let's add (3) 121oz jugs of 8.25%. That will bump you a little over 16, which will drop pretty quickly on the front end of this procedure. From here, your job is to test FC, and use Pool Math to raise it back to 16 from wherever you catch it. It will fall back down, and you want this to happen as little as possible. After your first bleach addition, give it about a few hours and re test FC. You'll soon get a feel for how fast it's dropping and that will give you a better idea of how often you need to be testing. You won't have to continue every few hours testing as a rigid timline until done, but at first you want to get a feel for how long your additions are lasting. Have you tried out Pool Match yet? It's easy, but if you need some pointers, just ask. Or ask about anything else before you start if need be.

From here, and once all the above is done, do not test for pH, or Cya. They will be fine.
