Help With Valve Automation, Manual Use

Hi there. You all were able to help me once before so I’m hoping you can help again. I have a Pentair easy touch automation panel. We use a remote control to switch our pool from the swim out spa to the regular jets and back. The remote control reroutes everything based on a valve. When we used this functionality yesterday, the breaker popped and we had to reset it. This has never happened before. Now we are unable to switch the system back over from the swim out jets to the regular jets. When we push the spa button, nothing moves so I’m assuming that either the motor is damaged or there’s another issue.
I’m happy to do it manually, but I’m not sure which way to turn the valve and when I try to turn it it resists so I don’t wanna break it, nor am I sure if I will damage anything by doing it manually when the automation is still installed.
So these are my questions:

- can you tell from this picture whether the valve should be turned clockwise or counterclockwise?
- can I do it manually even though the automation is installed?
- what do you think is wrong with the system? I see that there are relays installed for the automation. Could it be a bad relay? Toggling the relay doesn’t seem to do anything.
- there’s a little toggle switch on the front of the automation, also pictured. I have toggle it on and off in case it’s a reset but it didn’t seem to do anything. Any thoughts on this?

You need to show us complete pictures of your equipment pad and plumbing for us to figure it which way your valves should be in POOL mode and SPA mode.

Thanks. Pool mode would be off to the left. I will get some better pictures. We’re having tropical weather and heavy rains down here so I was a bit hasty with my photos! Stand by.

Best way to manually move the valves is:

• Remove the screw holding the handle on
• Remove the handle
• remove the four screws holding the actuator to the valve
• Pull the actuator up off the valve and put to the side
• Put the handle on the valve stem
• Turn it to the position needed

I will post later how to diagnose the actuator problem.

Do you have a multimeter and know how to check voltage?

Thanks. That helps a lot. Now I know I do need to remove the automation part to do it manually. Do you know if I would turn it clockwise or counter? I don’t want to move it the wrong way. My assumption is counter based on the other valve for skimmer and main drain. We do have a multimeter but haven’t used it much.

The valve can be turned either way.

Also try the toggle switch underneath the actuator. Sometimes they get bumped.

Thanks. We just had a hurricane barrel through and have a lot of flooding so I haven’t worked on this yet but will this week. What does the toggle switch do? Is it a cut off switch? I guess that was my initial thought that maybe when the breaker popped this switch was impacted in some way. Still not sure if the breaker popping caused the issue or if it was the result of the issue. Thank you.
