somehow we hit the high CYa level ground with our plaster/gunite pool. When we did pool school I was only thought to check chlorine PH alkalinity in our pool.
We recently started noticing yellow like algae and nothing would help so I took a sample to our local pool store.
It came back that our CYA levels are super high
Since then we have drained a bit added a bit like 2 times now and keep brushing
I was told not to worry about adding any chemicals to the pool until we get CYA levels lower

Dont follow that advice or you’ll be dealing with a swamp in short order. Get some chlorine in the water as advised above and get a test kit on order. The pool stores give out bad advice.

Thats just downright malicious by the pool store. Adding no chlorine in the summer for any period of time is guaranteed to turn your pool into a swamp. But of course they have plenty of magic pool store potions that they will sell you that costs hundreds of $. Thats much better for them than selling you $20 worth of chlorine like they should have.

But we were over 110 last week so I consider that better

PH looks to be 8.0.

Use the FAS-DPD, 870 and 871 to test FC.

If you put the powder in and it does not turn pink That means no chlorine, you can move on to CC test.

You should use the round vial with 870/871. Use 10mL sample, each drop is 0.5 FC.

Can you explain how the cya last week was 110 and now 80. We can use that trick here too,so please divulge.

This is the kit I have , yeah it did not turn pink at all

To SLAM, you need to add a Taylor K-1515 FAS-DPD KIT or SLAM Option
