New Plaster a Disaster

Welcome to TFP.

I really cannot see details of your plaster through the reflections on the water surface.

The plaster was a product called Hydrazzo. a very smooth finish product they claimed. It is a quarts product,I went with Catalina Blue.
They visited my pool several times this past summer only to scratch their heads. Never blame the product itself.
The fill water that comes from the city of Houston had some iron in it but acceptable to the city.
The Hydrazzo manager and my installer say the water has too much calcium in it.
This problem showed up exactly 30 days after they installed the new plaster. Yes, they removed all the old plaster but did not brush on any type of sealer or glue before shooting on the plaster. The shell is concrete.
My pool store says I need to add a bunch of acid to the water. The Hydrazzo people say that's not a good idea just keep the water balanced. My installer has a program that keeps track of my reading and I have done so since day one. The replastering was done in March 2023. It's not even a year old. I shudder to think what it will look like in another year's time. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. I'm coming up to my one-year mark and want to know how to proceed. make them rip the plaster out and start over again?? I balance the water almost daily. Typically I need to add a 1/2 to 2/3rdsquart of acid to balance and lower my ph. They want it at 7.2 but it usually only drops to 7.6 with out adding at least a quart of acid. My alk. has consistently been 60-80 all year long.

Why do "they" want your pH at 7.2?
What is the pool CH?
What is the fill water CH?

How are you testing your pool water?

How much is too much?

If you want good help, you have to provide good data and not just vague descriptions like too much or too little.

Can you show all reading from the beginning?

Have you been tracking CSI from the beginning?

If yes, what are the readings from day 1?

Who did the startup procedure?

The startup procedure is the most critical part of the process.

Can you describe the startup process that was done?

Did you contact CL Industries?

My pool store says I need to add a bunch of acid to the water.
We need real numbers and not vague descriptions like a lot or a little bit.

A "Bunch" really has no meaning.

Is that a gallon or 100 gallons or what?

We also need to know the logic, purpose and reasoning for adding a specific amount of acid.

What is the logic, purpose and reasoning of adding the acid?

How are you testing your pool water?
The 7.2 ph is what they consider ideal. The pool chemistry today was 3.0 chlorine, 7.8 ph, 80 Alk. I use a typical test kit from the pool store. It's in a blue plastic box. I take a sample elbow-deep. They pool installer brings his own fancy kit with many more tests available and we match pretty closely so I think my numbers are accurate. I can get my pool store to check the supply of water again. the first time they did the test they said typical city water no problems.

Can you show all reading from the beginning?Yes I can. Ill try to attach

Have you been tracking CSI from the beginning? Yes the installer put me on a 28 day program from day one.

If yes, what are the readings from day 1?

Who did the startup procedure? The installer Esposito Pools

The startup procedure is the most critical part of the process.

Can you describe the startup process that was done? He added some red liquid at the very start of the fill up. We filled it to the top non stop. All my readings are on a chart.

Did you contact CL Industries? No I don't know who they are

I do not see any calcium readings.

If the calcium was too high, why didn't the startup person alert you to the issue immediately?

CL Industries makes the product and they warranty the product.

You should contact them, register the product and file a warranty claim.

It looks like you have some calcium readings.

The fill water calcium does not seem to be excessive.

Why was 13 # of soda ash added on 10/23?

Did they monitor and manage the CSI?

I have just emailed Clindustries and messaged them about my situation. Will see how they respond. Thank you for your advise.

That is typical blue mottling that happens with dark blue Hydrazoo and other finishes.

If you want to drain the pool you can talk to your contractor about doing another round of polishing the finish to try and even it out. I had that done on my Hydrazoo finish.

Do not expect your finish will look like smooth blue paint. Mottling is part of the character of palster finished.
