Seems like Black and Decker released a pool heat pump.
Anybody can say anything about it?

Looks interesting.

I wonder how B+D will provide warranty and service on it.

I have not seen any reports of members having this HP.

I would inquire who local to you will provide warranty service or service after the warranty expires. And about parts availability.

It is not a good deal if when it breaks no one will service it or you cannot get parts to fix it.

I usually repair my own HVAC heat pumps (Trane), actually installed a couple MrCool Universal systems.

I'm not afraid of servicing them if overall the system is reliable. Mostly HPs just need capacitors replaced and if any refrigerant leaks to top up. Not sure if this uses refrigerant though.

Actually, since I have a 17k gal pool, this seems to be more in-line with size:

So to get warranty service and repair on a B+D Heat Pump you have to crate it up and ship it to their PUMP Repair Center in NY.

That does not sound like a warranty that has any value.

You buy it, you own it, and if it breaks it is your problem to get it fixed. If the price works for you under those terms then go for it.

One of the biggest failure modes of heat pumps is the titanium heat exchanger but not from chemistry. There is usually a transition made from the titanium coil through the PVC water pipe to a copper/brass connection. This is typically very close to the expansion valve which means that transition sees a lot of thermal variation. We have seen a few examples of leaks forming there because the titanium to brass transition fails. Those kinds of failures are not easily repairable because you cannot simply weld titanium as it’s too reactive. People try to fix it with epoxies and glues but they never hold.

If you can get your eyeballs on one in the field then you can inspect them to see if the transition is done well.

Companies like Black and Decker, Clorox and Jacuzzi do not make pool products.

They just license their name to various third parties because the name has some consumer recognition.

Many B&D products are made in China and imported by Blue Torrent Pool Products, which is owned by Island Recreational.

The heat pump is made by a contract manufacturer for Blue Torrent.

Hard to tell for sure who actually made it or where it was manufactured.

It’s made by Asia Connection LLC, which imports most products from China and it also makes Blue Torrent Pumps. They are also Island Recreational.

So, giving the company behind this, it's a no-go or wait and see?
Island Rec has been a generic based company local to me since....... well.... ever. They've had some real winners over the years and the losers have still usually been fair for the cost. A great many have been happy with them one way or the other, so long as they went in eyes open.
