That test procedure has nothing to do with a FAS DPD test

I think he is trying to speed up the test and adding 30 drops of R871 quickly.

That's correct, because the powder comes in really dark red I was trying to speed it up. I was going in 10 drop intervals swirl and 10 drops swirl then go down to 2 drops then 1 till it the water turns clear.

I havent added chlorine for the past 3 hours holding steady at 16.5.

Thanks the drops size were consistent as I wasn't squeezing hard just reducing times of swirling between drops. Good news is that pool has been holding steady since the shade covered the pool.

Hahaha, man talk about a rough start to pool ownership. I did not perform my due dillegence @kimkats tried to tell me about my test kit.

So far is been a great learning experience and my FC, CC, TC and everything else will be in order after this headache.

That said, a SWCG pool in the DFW area needs to have a CYA level of 60 to 80 or the sun will consume the FC in a heartbeat.

Also, it appears that you are trying to keep your FC way too low.

With a CYA of 20 your very minimum FC is 2 and your target is 3 to 5
With a CYA of 30 your very minimum FC is 2 and your target is 3 to 6
With a CYA of 70 your very minimum FC is 3 and your target is 5 to 10

This got me to thinking with our new pool. We are in East Texas, and the pool has full sunlight all the time. Are these numbers we should be shooting for?

No this is purely a slam treatment to get whatever is killing my chlorine levels cleaned out.

I am in no place to give feedback but I will be daily testing for the next three weeks once this Crud is gone.

Understand your total loss of FC in optimized conditions (cya, ph, etc) then ensure you not only target your FC levels but account for loss which I did not take into consideration and then got in trouble as I ordered my test kit way too late.

On to day 3, did a late night vacuum and the FC was up to 18.5 at 1130pm, tested at 715am and FC was down to 15.

Funny thing happened. Long story but I shot DE Filter in my pool and now it's cloudy. Do I sit and wait for it to works it's way thru or should I consider a different approach.

Some will go through the filter but most will sit on the bottom of the pool and wait for you.

Vacuumed the entire pool for an hour pool is clear.

FC somehow increased to 18 after the shade hit.

You are doing something but I don't know what it is that you're not getting consistency. Please tell us what's really happening with the testing because there's too much descrpincy in your results.

I am not doing anything but following directions. I mostly work from home but have to run out at some times for a couple of hours.

I am more than happy to call any of you and go thru it but here it is.

I brush the pool twice a day, I also started to vacuum since yesterday. The pool is crystal clear and I don't see any algae or anything. The plaster just turned a month old.

I try to test 10 mins after adding chlorine but it's all over the place I just got my speedstir and the results haven't changed as far as inconsistency.

I rinse the bottle and dropper with pool water, I fill the test cylinder to 10ml, drop the magnetic pill and start to spin it. Then I take a heaping spoon of r0870, then I start my drops, counting and then divide by 2. Log the test in pool math and then see how much chlorine to add.

I am all ears as I have went thru a ton of chlorine.

I have the nichless leds, waterspouts in the pool, and elevated spa (which I haven't turned on yet) could thay be the culprit? I have only run the pool pump.

I also have a air blower for my spa.

This might not be enough time to achieve full circulation of the chlorine throughout the pool. I'm not sure what that number is, but 10 minutes seems very light.

Sometimes I wait 15 to 30 sometimes I won't test until a full hour goes by. Also should I test in the same area and about a foot deep or should test from the surface.

I don't know if am splitting hairs on this but I agree that I should be consistent by now.
Should I change my pool pump to gpm and then wait till 16k gallons have circulated?
