Pentair SWCG IC40

Bummer. No more CYA (for now) and get ready to SLAM:

Note that you will need a good test kit if you do not already have one, and a good source of liquid chlorine. In our area, I find that Walmart is probably the best with a close 2nd being Pinch a Penny with their refillable liquid chlorine jugs.

Thanks for the input I am headed to Walmart right now to pick more up. I don't see algae but I'll be brushing and slaming throughout the day.

The beginning is tuff and need to keep the FC at slam level to overcome what's chewing at it . Add chlorine wait 10 minutes, test and as per poolmath add back what's missing to bring it back to slam level, wait 10 minutes and the same cycle till it holds the slam level for 10 - 15 minutes. Then minimum every 2 hours check what it is and add back. Once you get a grip on it the duration between adding get longer. The more it's at slam level the faster the attack goes. Check filter pressure and clean filter with whichever filter method is needed for the filter you have (not mentioned in signature). Brush minimum twice daily thoroughly...........

Sorry still getting ramped up. I have the DE filter and will backwash. I tested an hour after and I am 13.5 going to add more and test after 10 minutes to get it to stick at slam level.

When should a backwash my filter. Part of me says right now but I am a couple days in of adding 6lb of CYA (using the tshirt method) filter pressure is around 30.

Clean the DE filter when pressure rises by 25% over clean pressure.

That level of filter pressure is quite high. No need to run the VS pump at high rpms. I would think 1200-1500 rpm should be sufficient to close the SWCG flow switch under normal conditions.

Tested again at 15 ppm. I increased the pressure to 2000 to get better flow, added 24 Oz of chlorine. Will test in 10

It was getting stagnant, I bumped it to 2000. Also when is a good time to backwash filter?

Tested again down to 14. Backwash complete bring back up to 16.

Make a note of your current clean filter pressure. Also note the position of any valves and the pump rpm. When your filter pressure rises by 25% from the current reading, it's time to backwash or clean the filter again.

Filter pressure is at 20 all valves are open. Pump is at 2800. FC dipped to 13.5 after adding more water as Filter was really dirty saw black stuff coming out of it.

Right now FC is at 17.5

Dropped to 14.5 after another brushing, touched it up and tested again back to 16.

Here are my test results. Throughout the day, tried to get it as frequent as possible think I saw some black algae and the spot disappeared after I brushed on it.

15 at 4:18p
14.5 at 4:39p
15 at 5:04p
16.5 at 5:26p
13 at 7:02p

Brushed twice today, I'll keep at it, do I need to measure my CYA?
