Is that Algae?

What do I do...I've been slamming for more than 48hrs.
The testing will tell you. Right now, it's telling you that there are organics trying to thrive in your water because you lost FC overnight. SLAM on or it may allow the algae to get the upper hand.

Clear water slams can be fustrating, believe me I know. But algae grows exponentially and at some point it's like trying to stop a runaway train.

How long will it take...I feel like I don't have a TERRIBLE case...It's crazy that it still hasn't killed it yet at such a high FC.

I just went to brush the pool and I noticed this on the waterline all around the pool. Is that just due to the water line or is it algae? I was able to brush it off.

Also, safe to swim in the pool while I slam? Kids as well? I know I asked but just making sure.

No two are the same.

It it likely tree crud if it's floating. While not common, said crud can sometimes be the reason for the FC loss, but you need to SLAM to be sure. Going forward, you'll expect some loss in the spring if that's the case and run the FC a little higher to account for it. It's all part of the learning curve. :)

Yes. FC needs to be between min and SLAM to be sterile. Algae is unsightly but harmless. Your pool is clear but anyone else would also need to be able to see bottom for swimmer safety.

What would I do without you and @Mdragger88 :)

So I will slamming today and will test again tonight....Now what happens if this just goes on and on and I keep losing 2ppm overnight? Because it it was really bad I would lose a lot more overnight, right?

Rely on the rest of the TFP army to help out. We got people for DAYS. ;)

But thank you for the kind words.

Being that this is the first time the pool is being scrutinized with accurate and frequent testing, we need to rule out algae because the FC was less than stellar previously. Once you've been at it for some time, we will be more confident it's tree crud causing the loss. The problem would be just assuming tree crud now, and being gifted a swamp because of it.

You'll be much more prepared next spring, knowing how your pool responds either way once you've become 'one' with it.

Yes. But if a 'little' isn't paid the proper respect, it will become alot in a short time.

Right! I'll keep SLAMing today and test tonight again. PS: The little dust debris seems less but there are always some at the same spot at the bottom of the pool. Just a few little lines/spots.

If it feels slimy- its algae. If not probably some kinda dirt. Do you have pecan trees?

Yes - it is safe to swim with fc between minimum & slam level for your cya.
I usually let them swim before checking & then check & replenish slam level when they’re done. I also rinse the suits after. Funny story, my husband was in the hot tub one night & got hot I guess so decided to take a dip in the pool. I didn’t notice until he had been in a while. Unbeknownst to him the pool was @ Mustard Algae slam level which is 20% higher than normal slam level. I ran out to warn him & he looked at me like I was crazy.
He noticed nothing. He has very sensitive skin and will often complain if ph is off but not a peep at those high fc levels! I made sure to rinse his suit after & he did shower but I was floored. I don’t recommend that.
But we have all swam at fc up to slam with no issues.

I slammed my pool a few times. One took 3 days, the other took almost 20. Yes you can still swim in the pool since you can see the bottom, just a little smelly.

I don't recall it being slimy, a bit hard to get off with my fingers so I got the brush and that did the trick.

A few days of slamming is really not a big deal for the peace of mind it brings knowing that you truly eradicated your unwanted tenants & afterwards you will take steps to ensure they don’t get back in!
It’s not a 1 dose miracle solution like most people want but it those “miracles” don’t usually actually cure the problem so they have to do it all the time- like every time it rains or whatever. That’s not a life I want to lead..

How often would you brush and vacuum? (Note that I have to do all that manually.)

So my ladder has been out of the pool for the last few days, but after taking a closer, look, there might be some algae. And that does seem to smear. Now I remember seeing those when WHEN the ladder was in the pool.

Flip it upside down & look under the rungs…
The tubes are hollow- check in there too
Also - bleach!

So that is algae?
I’ll flip the ladder when I get home and look.
Should I pour some chlorine on this spots and scrub it?
Also, I should always take the ladder out when not using it, right?
