SLAM processs adding liquid clorine

You should be testing your FC and adding sufficient liquid chlorine 3-4 times per day. Preferably morning, mid day, late afternoon, and evening.

But SLAM didn't mention anything about gap between adding liquid chlorine and water test. I have added last chlorine ar 4pm
Yeah...it actually does give good indications on frequency. I printed it out and probably read it like three times before I stared so I clearly understood, then twice/three times a day while I was SLAMing...

  • Test and adjust chlorine levels as frequently as practical, but not more than once per hour, and not less than twice a day. Chlorine additions should be frequent, especially at the beginning. Algae and other organic debris will consume chlorine very rapidly at first. As things progress, you will lose less chlorine each cycle and can add chlorine less frequently.
Hope this helps!!!

I am doing SLAM process and accidentally added more liquid chlorine.

My FC is 11ppm now
Combine chlorine is 0.6
CYA is 40

Pool is cloudy now.
Should I wait for chlorine to lower?

Thanks

You must test & add enough liquid chlorine frequently to keep your fc level at 16ppm until you have
—> crystal clear water
(not cloudy, no algae - dead or alive)
—>pass the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test
&
—> cc’s are .5 or less
My yesterday's afternoon reading were
FC 9.8
CYA 45
So I added chlorine again to match fc level 16 ppm

During night it was raining so I couldn't run test again.

This morning my readings are
FC 12
CYA 35 or less

If I consider CYA 35 then my FC level 12 ppm is enough.
Should I keep with this FC level or raise FC level to original 16 ppm

Please suggest

Did your pool overflow more than 25% of the water in your pool? Otherwise the CYA level did not change. It is testing variation. Do not keep testing CYA. You test CYA once a month or after any major changes.

You reported a CYA of 40 ppm earlier this week. Use that value.

My pool is 40000 gallon. I have almost added 38 gallons of liquid chlorine to maintain FC to SLAM level 16. Its been a week and my pool is still cloudy.

Am i missing something here? Please suggest 20230421_193541.jpg

You have a large pool.

1 gallon of 10% liquid chlorine raises your FC by 2.5 ppm.

So far your algae has consumed 95 ppm of FC.

While your pool is still cloudy how has the color or visibility changed from when you started?

You have any pics of the water at the start of the SLAM Process?

How often have you backwashed your DE filter?

What is your filter pressure?

You running your pump 24/7?

If you started with a swamp you’re doing great 👍🏻 it can take a while to get
How Clear is TFP Clear?
. Keep going…..
You’re in the POP part-
Pool Owner Patience 😁

You are done when:

CC is 0.5 or lower;
You pass an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test
AND
the water is clear.
(Crystal Clear w/no algae dead or alive)

Don’t forget to keep doing all the things
👇
*Check & scrub every nook & cranny where algae may hide (light niches, steps, drain covers, ladder handrails, skimmer throats/weirs, etc.)
*Run slam level water through all water features & lines for at least a couple hours a day during the SLAM Process.
*Brush & or vac daily (this breaks up biofilms that algae uses to protect itself from chlorine)
*Backwash/clean filter when pressure rises 25%over clean pressure.

Taking a pic in the same place at the same time every day at the ladder or with a pole can be helpful to see the improvement in clarity.

When I started SLAM it was green then it turned blue on 3rd day. And it has been like that for 3 days. Visibility might have chnaged little bit while it's cloudy blue.

I have not done backwash so far. Because I heard once I backwash I will loose chemicals. Tomorrow I will clean DE filter manually and add DE.

I have been running pump at 3000 rpm 24

When you backwash you lose some water that may have chemicals in them but you are also dumping out algae and then adding clean water to the pool.

Backwash as often as necessary and don't worry about losing a bit of water.

The SLAM Process can take two to three weeks. You should see your chlorine demand taper off during the time which will be a good sign you are headed towards the three exit criteria.

Patience! You are doing fine.

Yes, backwashing is important. It took me 11 days of slamming to go from nasty green with tons of leaves, algae, and debri sitting on my pool floor, to purty!! My pool was inactive for 9-10 months, so follow the advice and you'll get there. Backwash, scrub, vacuum, and keep that FC up!20230404_170444.jpg20230421_201103.jpg

My pool is running on dummy cell. Can I add mt new ic40 salt cell now or I should wait for SLAM process to complete

Wait for the SLAM Process to complete. We don't recommend running the SWG during the SLAM process. You get a better feel for the progress when you can see how much FC is being added with the liquid chlorine.

Hello all,

I have been maintaining my FC to 16 ppm. Since 9 days but I am still seeing my pool cloudy. I have vaccum and cleaned filter.

Am I missing anything here? How this will chnage from cloudy to clean? Do I need to keep adding more liquid chlorine?
If during SLAM I keep maintaining my FC 16 ppm. How will it come back to normal range after it complete all 3 SLAM criteria?

Thanks

Have you cleaned your filter everytime the pressure has increased 25% over clean pressure? You may need to clean the filter multiple times during a slam.

Time and filtration. How often are you testing and adding FC? Have you been scrubbing? Everything? Behind the lights, inside any ladder tubes, skimmers? Did you check the weir doors for algae?

The sun will take care of that for you...

Understand that you have a rather sizable pool. Especially our neck of the woods. It's going to take a lot of time for all of the dead algae to get filtered out, even with a DE filter.

x2 on making sure every bit of the pool and all equipment is scrubbed thoroughly. Definitely pop open the filter and blast out all of the nasty old DE in there.
