What did you do to your pool today?

The folks who do tree work are nuts, one cut his strap and fell years ago doing work at my parents house. Turned out they lied about being insured and the poor guy was on his own. Owner of the company basically left town.

My parents insurance company said since they were inside they can’t be sued but my parents felt bad for the guy.
Yeah they really are nuts, I couldn’t do it. He was fascinating to watch, he was all like cirque de Soleil with a chain saw . I hope that guy who fell fully recovered.

Someone blessed the rains down in Africa 🤷‍♂️
I jumped on the next 2 days craziness and took another 90 mins out yesterday so I'm like 8 inches below my tile now cause we are suppose to get 2 inches of rain with snow. so who knows. suppose to be like 10 tomorrow night so figured getting water out would be too hard. I'm hoping I took enough out to keep me well below that tile.

The more you go in the easier it gets
Uh-huh......🤔 I'm at 47 today and pumping off water...again. This goes on during the entire off-season. That plus adjusting the pH as needed. Today added 1 lb. of increaser since the SI shows -0.52 with a pH of 7.5. So 1 lb. should bring it up to 8 and an SI of basically 0. I try to keep the water level at about where I have it when closing - roughly 2-3 inches below the skimmer. Then, I always suck all the water out of the skimmer pot - peace of mind knowing that the drain line is still effectively plugged. Also, just nice to see the water again. No polar plunges for me here in PA. 🥶 Didn't check to see if the pool was froze on Christmas Eve. With wind chill we were in minus temps.

Re-stained the fence around the equipment pad. While I was doing that, I noticed a leak on the pad. One of the unions on the SWCG was leaking. After 3 seasons, I figured it was probably time to check for scaling. So I shut everything down and broke it apart. Happy to advise there was zero scaling on the cell, and after applying some silicone grease to the o-rings, the cell is back in place and not leaking.

I ordered a bunch of CYA, new reagents, and detangled the robot cord. As soon as CYA is delivered I'll add the required amount, do a full test an balance, and start dialing in the SWG.

Where did you order and how much was it? I may need some this season and prices have been going up up up....

I stared at my pool today. I'm not a bigger swimmer but I actually like maintaining it and testing the chemicals.
We are having temps in the 50's and 60's this week which is odd for PA in February. I really want to pop off a corner of the cover and peek in there but I'll never get the Dang loops reattached! So for now I wait.

Checked my supply of CYA. I've set a repeating annual computer calendar reminder for that. I doubt I have enough for this year's dose, so I ordered some from Amazon. My first order of this brand from Amazon in May of 2018 was $16.55 for 4 lbs. Today it was $35.17 for 7 lbs. So it was $4.14/lb vs $5.02/lb now. An increase of 21%, not counting how buying 7 lbs would typically be a better bargain than 4 lbs. So... not great, but not anywhere near twice as much.

Sad... that's my rational: "Well, at least it wasn't double!"

Now, this was the brand that some of us had trouble getting dissolved in a sock in the skimmer basket last year. I'll report back if this batch is better or worse.

I think u mean #’s but yeah it’s gone up ⬆️ for sure!
I will likely try my hand at the local mom & pop pool store again this year when I go refill my bleach jugs- last year it was 5# for the same price as 4# everywhere else & it dissolved well. I miss the days of the clorox brand one being $12/4# & it coming in the handy jug.

I hope you mean $35 for 7 pounds, not ounces!

I just compared & the puritech on Amazin’ beats out the one I was getting last year at the PS by over a dollar per pound! It’s in the cart 🛒!
P.S’s Nuclo stabilzer = $4.40/#
(it says they’re out of it so may be more $$ when it comes back in stock)
VS
Puritech= $3.16/#
(if i get 20#) & a little cheaper if you get 25#
I think 20 would be plenty for the whole season & probably beyond for me. I will probably throw some desiccant packs in with it after I open it.
I closed with a cya between 80-90 so it’s probably still up there now as I don’t usually lose too much over the winter except when I dilute when raising the water back up for opening.
These prices are out of control 😵‍💫

This is what I usually get. It has gone up $8 since last time (Currently $78) I got it in 2021. I paid $45 in 2018.
