My first SLAM

Thanks, that's what I mentioned this morning. It's just odd that last week I was putting in LESS chlorine than I am now.
The 1st time I realized that was even really there & a nasty hiding spot I was in shock. 🤢I have had multiple temporary pools & some had those & some didn’t. Just a manufacturing inconsistency I suppose.

I also noticed my patch from poking a hole in the side while putting the pool together last year was leaking so I fixed that and one of the drain ports at the bottom was dripping a tad so I tightened that cap.

When I had an Intex pool, it definitely harbored algae under that flap along the seam where the side meets the bottom (round pool). A toilet brush would be perfect for cleaning that out. You have to stay after it too during the SLAM. But once the SLAM was completed, I don't recall it ever coming back.

So, I lost less FC overnight than I have been, but still from 29 at 8:30pm down to 23 at 6:30am. :cautious: I tested three times this morning and each time it went down by 2. First was 23, then 22, and finally 20. These tests were all within minutes of one another and no sun had hit the water. I went with the first test since normally I wouldn't have tested again. But why such differences?

Anytime there is a result that seems odd, repeat and. Slow. It. Down. SLAM tests are the worst needing so many drops, but each and every one matters, especially when trying to pass an OCLT. Human nature is that drops 10-30 are an inconvenience as you roll your eyes it's not done yet. Ask me how I know. :)

So if you get one that's iffy, take a breath and go back to the basics. The bottle gets perfectly inverted. Only the gentlest of squeezes to let gravity make perfect, repeated drops. If it takes 2 seconds a drop, you will never know you lost 45 seconds of your day as opposed to the fast drop way. Matter of fact, if you do it correct enough, you'll save the 2nd and 3rd trys because they didn't make sense either.

Last night I did a FC test of 23. I am SLAMming at 28, so the app had me add 60oz of chlorine. Half an hour later my FC was 32. Why would it have me add so much??

This morning was 26 FC, so something is still very wrong. Sigh.

The water is stupid clear now, right? If so let FC drift down to target range and see how it holds with an OCLT there. As long as you stay above minimum you won't lose any ground if I'm wrong, it will only be a pause in the battle for a few days.

Try deep cleaning the sand- maybe there’s some funk in there eating your fc.
It has seen some things & been through alot

&
doing the oclt at a little lower fc has less chance of error (because less drops at the crack of the morning)

ND, thanks. Yes, the water looks great! Just scares me to go to 5 after all of this but I'm going broke buying chlorine. I don't understand exactly what's been happening for the last week, but I want it to stop.

Mdragger, thanks! I will do a deep clean this weekend on my sand. Heck, might even replace some while the filter is out and opened. I wonder if it's a bad idea to dump some bleach straight in the filter and mix it down....

Just doing the deep clean should suffice. You don’t have to let fc drop to 5 - around 9 or so would be as low as I would go. Just so u don’t have so many drops to count.
That way u can recheck ph when fc gets under 10ppm & adjust if necessary.
& I would also re confirm your cya. Remember- there’s no inbetweens- always round up.

I was gone most of the day and couldn't check until a bit ago. FC dropped by half during the sun today (from 28 to 14) which seems slower than it has been! :) I will definitely check ph after my swimmer exits the pool and I double checked CYA yesterday and raised it back to 70 in my logs. Thanks so much!

If anyone has a minute would you mind checking my logs and suggesting my next course of action? Deep cleaning of the sand filter is on the schedule for tomorrow.

It looks like u may have added a dab too much acid - u can just point the jets up to disturb the water & raise ph a little.
Other than that carry on w/ Overnight Chlorine Loss Test tonight/in the morning. Let us know how it goes. 👍🏻
I am curious what the deep cleaning of the sand will produce. There’s really not anywhere else for the scourge to be hiding.
