I put a mr clean magic eraser in my skimmer after adding 7 gallons of pool shock. I didn’t know that they do not recommend doing the magic eraser. The eraser was only in the pool for a little over a day. Do I need to drain my pool ? Is there any way to
Test the water for melamine cynanaute

Hi and welcome to TFP!

I am guessing you have a green pool for you to put 7 gallons of pool shock in the pool. Do you have any idea what the active % of the shock was?

I am going to ping our science guy to see what he has to say about the magic eraser part @JoyfulNoise

Now lets talk about clearing your pool. Can you take and share a pic of your pool?

So the whole “I put a magic eraser in my green pool and it cleared up in a day!!” is one of those Facebook Scams. It has no basis in reality and the people that push it are either highly misinformed or looking to make other people look foolish. As with most advice on Facebook, it should be completely ignored because Facebook really should be called Farce-book.

Now to reality - a Magic Eraser sponge sitting in a skimmer will do NOTHING. There isn’t a high enough chlorine concentration in the pool to cause any kind of significant chemical reaction and the sponge will not emit any toxic compounds.

Take the sponge out, put it back in your kitchen and the SLAM your pool according the method described on TFP.

… and really, stay off of Facebook pool groups as 99.99% of them are worthless cesspools of misinformation.

Thank you. And I couldn’t agree more with you about Facebook groups. My son is always on them or the internet looking for advice. Even if I added 7 gallons of chlorine to my pool and the Chlorine level test high it is still save

Your safe fc level depends upon your cya level. FC/CYA Levels
It is safe for equipment, surfaces, & swimmers w/ free chlorine between minimum & SLAM Process level for your cya. Only allow swimmers if u can see the bottom of the pool in the deep end.
As mentioned above if u have algae the answer is the slam process 👇
To do so you must have you Own recommend test kit. Taylor k2006c or tf100/pro Test Kits Compared.
Here’s some info to get u started properly caring for your pool 👇
