Hello
Bran new to saltwater Any help / guidance will be appreciated. was told to add 4 40# bags to my pool. Got water tested at local pool store.. not impressed with the service from them

Yeah, you won't see many fans here of getting your water tested at the pool store! You could take total control of your pool by buying a quality test kit. As for your SWCG question - you don't list a salt cell in your signature - what are you using for SWCG? You want one capable of at least 2x your pool volume. Did you test for salt prior to adding the 4 40# bags? That sounds close to right for your size pool, but depends on what your starting salt level was - most pools already have more salt than you think even if not a 'salt' pool.

Definitely skip the pool store and test the water with your own TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test it. Now you'll also want a Taylor K-1766 salt test kit. Be sure to use the PoolMath APP's "Effects of Adding" to help you with the proper amount of any product to add. The links below should help.

I just opened my pool bout a 2 weeks ago. Thought this year I'd try salt.. lol. I Have a TFP test kit for chlorine tablet pool and have been testing my water on my own for few years now.. Added salt and got nervous I guess. I did not test it before adding any salt. I bought this swg from Wal-Mart will post a pic in a few

In case you didn't know, even liquid chlorine or other methods of adding chlorine can add salt, so it's usually best to test your salt level before adding salt. Your salt level may already be elevated and you won't need to add as much. If you add too much salt, the only way to remove it is by changing some water.

I currently have a TF-100. I can use this to test my "Salt" pool water also ?
The TF-100 will test all of your normal levels (FC, CC, CYA, PH, TA, CH) for ANY pool type. But it does not test salt. For that you need a separate salt test. The Taylor K-1766 is one of the most popular salt test kits on the market.

Awsome !! thanks

can i use strips or what you recomend?

Post a full set of current test results from your TF100.

Adding baking soda will raise the TA. A higher TA will allow pH to rise quicker in a given time period.

as anyone seen one of these?
Have not - looks like something designed for smaller above ground pools. Does it list a rated capacity at all (what size pool it claims to work for)?

Likely not as robust as the more mainstream options - but these things either tend to work or not work, and it's a matter of if it can produce enough chlorine for your pool. I've been pretty happy with my more affordable Intex SWCG - we'll see how long it lasts (on season 3 now).
