Great forum here, I wish I would have found this when we signed contracts in October. We just broke ground this week and ran into a sewer line.

We are building 40 x 26 with 11 x 26 tanning ledge in gunite 3' shallow to 7 inch deepmostrecent4.JPGIMG_3680.JPGIMG_3678.JPGmostrecent2.JPG
Included is

All Excavation
4000 PSI Gunite
6-inch thick floor and 12-inch thick bond seam
6 x 6 tiles at the waterline
Diamond Brite Plaster. (I want to use pebble tec) have to find out how much more this will be
3 skimmers
2 main drains
4 returns
automatic pool cover
2 Hayward intelliflo variable speed pump
Hayward DE Filter
Hayward 400k BTU natural gas heater
Omni Logic 4 relay base
6 Colorlogic LED's
4 Loads of water to fill the pool

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking I need more LED's.

Welcome to TFP.

How many gallons in the pool?

I doubt you need more LED lights. Can you indicate where the lights will be positioned?

Where will the skimmers and returns be positioned?

Where are the prevailing winds coming from?

How will you chlorinate the pool?

Some things you find helpful...

Welcome to TFP.

How many gallons in the pool?

I just used one of the calculators I found and it came out around 41,500 gallons
I doubt you need more LED lights. Can you indicate where the lights will be positioned?

I used Jandy’s lighting design guide. It showed divide length by 8 which would be 5 on each side evenly spaced. I would do 4 colorlogic bubblers on the tanning ledge.
Where will the skimmers and returns be positioned?
I don’t know I will ask the builder. Any suggestions?
Where are the prevailing winds coming from?

No idea let me see if I can find out
How will you chlorinate the pool?

We are getting the Omni logic I think this does the saltwater if I am not mistaken.

Confirm the Aquarite cell is included in your package.

We recommend you get a cell that is 2X your pool volume. That will be difficult with a 40K pool. The maximum size T-15 cell is rated at 40K.

The problem is with a 40K cell in a 40K pool you pretty much have to run it at 100% 24/7 to generate sufficient chlorine in the park summer months. And you have no additional chlorine generation in reserve if your pool needs a boost in chlorine.

If you stay with a Hayward system then you probably need two cells.

I have a 35K pool and used to get by with a 40K Pentair cell running it 24/7. When that cell died I replaced it with a Pentair 60K cell.

You don't do pool lights on both sides of a pool. The lights should be placed on the side facing away from the house so it does not shine into anyone's eyes or into the house.

You don't count lights on bubblers as they contribute nothing to lighting up the pool.

Pentair guideline is to aim for 4 lumens per square foot of pool surface. For example, if the pool is 500 sq-ft then you need 500x4=2000 lumens. Pentair LED Pool Lights - Further Reading

LED lights vary widely in the lumens they put out. So you need to know the light output of the lights you are getting.

Also be aware that pool LED lights have terrible reliability and often fail in a few years. Understand the replacement for all the lights you install.

5 lights along the wall facing away from the pool sounds reasonable.

I don't think Hayward makes lighted bubblers. Which ones will you be getting?

LED lights from different manufacturers don't all have the same exact colors. Even different model ligtts from a manufacture may not have colors that match perfectly. People are oftne disappointed that their various pool lights don't all match colors.

I don’t know I will ask the builder. Any suggestions?

Skimmers should be placed so the prevailing winds blow towards the skimmers. With 2 or 3 skimmers position them for the two or 3 likely wind directions.

The return placement then depends on where the skimmers are placed and the pool shape to get circulation of water and try not to have any stagnant water areas.

It seems in the ballpark. I suspect you may have more like 35K gallons. It all depends on your depth profile.

You will learn what the real number is when you fill the pool and start adding chemicals.

I was researching the lumens on the Hayward lights but did not see this information.

Lumens are in some of the light Installation Manuals.

You are correct. I missed that.

Note that bubbler takes the CrystaLogic 320 or160 lighting. Will you be using the same lights in the pool?

The manual is at https://www.hayward-pool.com/assets...orLogic-crystaLogic-160-320-owners-manual.pdf

I looked at the quote. He is using the colorlogic 320 which looks to be compatible with the bubbler. Do you think I should be looking at something else? Did you have any thoughts on the SR Smith Star Floor? Do the bubblers require a separate pump?

No, that is the best Hayward offers now. I just want you to understand what you are getting.

Did you have any thoughts on the SR Smith Star Floor?

I am not into that type of stuff other then to observe that most people show gadgets like that off a few times and then rarely turn it on. Consider if it is really worth the expense. maintenance. and complexity.

Do the bubblers require a separate pump?

Probably not if you don't have a spa.

How do you intend to control the bubblers?

Do you want to control then individually or as a group?

How the bubblers are installed and plumbed is critical if you expect them all to have the same height.

You should have a diverter valve on each bubbler line so you can adjust the flow to each individually.

This should all be a discussion with your builder and his plumber on what your expectations are that they need to meet.

I thought you could control with the omnilogic

Some updates, the sewer line has been moved, and now back to digging.

Started forming but I think they forgot that we purchased the automatic closer and had to redo the back part. They placed all 3 skimmers on the left side. Is that ok? What is the paper they are using?

Those rebar sticking up should be capped. They are a major OSHA violation. Someone can trip and spear themselves on the rebar and be significantly injured. You and the Pool Builder have liability.

I don't think I have ever seen rebar capped on any work site here in TX other than the ones on highway projects/big commercial. Definitely don't see it for pool builds or small work. Not that it isn't a great idea and a liability issue but so is the whole build site.

They do many things differently in Texas. It does not mean it is right.

Isn't that the truth. I do wonder how many pool builders add these things after being asked.

We see a good number of pics with caped rebar or ends all bent down. There are crews who follow job site safety practices.

I would not have any of my family walking around rebar that can spear them.

Thanks, I agree I don't like the idea of it after you pointed it out. I just ordered some caps on amazon and will give them to install. Any thoughts on skimmer locations?

Depends on the direction of your prevailing winds and where the returns are.

Need to see a diagram of the pool skimmer and return layout and what the designed water flow would be.

Can’t comment about skimmer locations without putting it in context of the planned water circulation.

Thanks, I was reading about this today. What's the easiest way to find prevailing winds? I know you can buy a cheap anemometer on amazon.
