My pool is set up for salt and was completed last October but the salt generators are still on back order and not yet available. So over the winter I’ve been using the floating tablet containers and have kept everything pretty normal. I now have the TF-100 test kit and after running the tests today things don’t look too good.

Free Chlorine 3 ppm
combined Chloramines 0
Total Chlorine 3 ppm

Calcium Hardness 150
Total Alkalinity 360
CYA 23

My pool has 90,000 gallons.

I don’t know where to start. From another chart, if I’m correct(?), I need to add 189 pounds of sodium bisulfate to get the pH to 110. Then I also need to deal with calcium hardness and CYA levels.
Any suggestions on how I should approach this, and in what order,would be greatly appreciated.
 
The first thing I would do is make sure that you didn't mix up the hardness and alkalinity tests. Those results almost look reversed.

Also, what is your pH?

Your CYA is 30. We round up because the scale is not linear. Follow the FC/CYA Levels.

You can keep the tabs in for now, but don't add any more. Find a good source of 10%-12.5% liquid chlorine.

Tell us again how big your pool is??? Is your pool really 90K gallons. That is way big for a saltwater pool. What salt system are you going to use?

I think there is some confusion going on as your pH needs to be in the 7's, not 110.

Before we move forward please confirm your pool size.

And you can't get a CYA reading of 23 from the TF-100 CYA cylinder that is only graduated in 10s.

My pH reading on the color scale is too red to read. The figures on hardness and alkalinity are correct. The pH is obviously high. I just didn’t think it would take that much chemicals to bring it down to 100-120.
I know the CYA cylinder is marked in tens. I interpolated…it was closer to 20 than 30 so I estimated at 23.

I have 50 pounds of sodium bisulfate. Should I add that tonight and then get more or wait until I have it all? Or should I shocker the pool first?
Yes the pool is definitely 90,000 gallons. I measured it when filling…actually 89700.

It’s 90,000 gallons. I didn’t realized there’s a limit on salt water pool sizes. It’s ssst up fir two IC 60 Pentair salt generator units but I can’t get them right now with the shortages going on. They were ordered and paid for last February.

Awesome. I've been to smaller water parks. Gotta see some pics.

Please post results in the following format:

FC
CC
pH
TA
CH
CYA

Your pH should show a two digit value with a decimal...example, 7.5. I think your confusing with TA (total alkalinity).

You can't eyeball and estimate since the scale is logarithmic and halfway between lines is not 5. That is why we simply round up.

Your CYA is 30.

IC 60’s are hard to get, but not that hard. I got one after a few weeks of checking polytecpools before they got them in stock.

90k is massive! That must be a lot of fun!

pH scale runs 0 to 14, can’t be anything else. Have you reviewed the ABCs of Water Chemistry?
Yeah, that’s really a huge pool!
 
I knew i rembered you. I KNEW it but couldn't remember why. So i went though the history and there is good reason why i remembered.

Pool Plans Finally...

I've attached the first pool plans and I would appreciate any constructive comments or ideas before I proceed to get bids, etc. It's probably helpful that I mention a few things. 1) The perimeter of the pool has already be constructed so it's literally "set in stone". The same for the depths...

OH WOWZER!!! I LOVE that pool and house!!! PLEASE, OH PRETTY PLEASE post updates on the build!

pH-it can be higher BUT will not be measurable with the average kit. Get some muriatic acid and get to work on getting the pH down a bit at a time so you don't crash your TA.

I've had two IC 60's on order since last February. I've also checked polytecpools on numerous occasions for these and their website will sometimes say they have them, but if you try to order they say the units are on backorder. The Pentair rep I spoke with two weeks ago said their computer shows only one IC 60 currently in the country....Hawaii...and they were contacting the wholesaler there to see if they could get it. Supposedly, they expected another one to be here sometime around the middle of this month and estimated a ship date of April 15 and my second unit would be available to ship in October (2021). Unfortunately, these estimated ship dates just keep moving out further and further. If you have a source of some IC 60's, I would be thrilled if you would share it.
It is a large pool, but we haven't really been able to utilize it. It was completely right before last winter and has only warmed up in the last few days. It should be a blast this summer. Thanks for your help.

I'm familiar with the pH scale. You and others are correct...I inadvertently referred to pH when it should have been the TA. Thanks for the correction. I didn't mean to confuse everyone. It is a huge pool. That's why I was originally questioning the amount of chemical it would require to lower the TA.
