In which modes does your your spa leak down to the pool level?

1. POOL mode - suction from pool and returns to pool, nothing should be flowing in the spa

Spa drops pool stays the same.

1. SPA mode - suction from spa and returns to spa

Haven't done this one want to keep spa full for plaster.

1. SPILLOVER mode - suction from pool and return to spa with spillover to pool

Spa stays full while spillover is going but we notice a drop in the pool when shut off, then spa drains down

1. Pump off

Everything off spa loses water. Either back into the pool or into the ground.

38 minutes and it dropped an inch plus.

EVEN THOUGH I DON'T SEE IT, IT HAS TO BE THE SPA LIGHT! EVERYTHING ELSE IS SHUT DOWN, EVEN IF I DIDN'T GET A PERFECT SEAL ON THE PLUGS IT SHOULDN'T BE DRAINING THIS FAST!

I THINK FILLING THE SPA WITH SAND MAY BE MY ONLY OPTION.

Have you pulled the spa light out of the light niche and examined it and where the cord goes out of the niche?

I tried looking at it this morning, shot food coloring around it and it didn't seem to suck.
Actually it makes some sense that the conduit cracked up under there, I did jack hammer the concrete to modify the steps way back in the day...i suppose tomorrow i will pull the spa light, cap it off in there, see what happens...

Hi pool peeps, i'm still alive.
Emotionaly drained though, I think i'm going to take a couple of days off from poolyworld.
poolyworld, should i copyright that?
Anyway, spa is going to be filled tonight.
If it drains down overnight, I'm going to quit and buy little place where me and my dog can fade away...

After 12 hours of idle time, spa still has water in it.
Has not leaked with plugs removed.

Just a brief summary...after plaster I had both pool and spa losing water. Pool I found that the autofill line was broken under the concrete and the pool water was finding its way to that nice little pvc crack and back into the Earth. Plugged autofill, pool leak stopped.
Spa water level dropped to pool level fairly quickly.
Changed check valve, still drained.
Changed 3 way valves, still drained.
Plugged up all spa returns, still drained.
Plugged up spa drains, one for booster pump one for main. Yep guessed it, still drained.
Had a "pro" pool guy over and he was certain it was a leak in the main spa drain line.

(Mind you that during this trial and error, I needed to keep the spa filled for the plaster.)

Coincidently, the pool water level and the spa light niche are aligned perfectly.
Plugged spa light conduit with silicone, and walla, no drain.

Only a temporary fix, i know but it'll work for now.

Still much to do, but at least I didn't need to bust out heavy machinery...

Update number 6 million...
Good news is that we have no significant water loss! All of my components seem to be working except for the Mastertemp 400 heater. Heater will not ignite. It starts and clicks but doesn't fire. After a while i get an ignition lock error.
Just can't figure it out.

You need about 40 GPM through the heater for it to fire.

Also might need to check the thermal regulator. See the article above on that. Your heater has been sitting a while so it might be stuck.

There is also a valve inside the unit. Mine was off, which is why it would not fire, initially. I also got the same error.

Thanks guys, I pulled out the regulator and it wasn't even attached to the spring, fished it out and tested it and it worked. Reinstalled it and system still didn't work. But seemed closer to almost on than before. The on/off switch on the inside the unit is in the on position.
Is there another stupid hidden on
/off switch somewhere?

Check you gas pressure using a manometer.

What on/off switch on the inside are you talking about? That the gas valve shutoff switch?

What does the LED on the Fenwall box show when it does not start?

Inside there is an on/off switch where the gas comes in. I have no led lights on the back of the panel. The only error comes from the electric box, red light blinks 3x which is an ignition lock error.

Is your heater NG or LP?

Three lights blinking on the Fenwal box indicates that the heater tried to light three times and did not sense a flame.

Reasons for not lighting can be:

• Incorrect gas pressure
• Bad gas valve
• Bad igniter
• Rodents chewed on wiring
• Flame sense problems - Heater Flame Sensing - Further Reading

You need to work through checking each area in a structured way. Best to start with the least expensive stuff first.

Check the gas pressure and check the igniter.

Just spent the last 20 minutes trying to copy the gif image of Han Solo fixing the Millinium Falcon by hitting it.
Couldn't figure that out either.
But...

I HAVE CREATED FIRE!!!!
Whatever I did, heater now works!!!
House may burn down soon, but....
Yeah me!

(Probably had to burn off cobwebbs and birds nests that had grown inside the heater.)

Almost had a disaster yesterday. Woke up and found that I left the hose on all night. Pool was close to spilling over. Realised that when I capped off my autofill, do to pipe leak, I also closed off the overflow pipe.

In other news, little advice to other owner/builders...keep your permits active.
Called building inspector and he informed me mine were expired, again.
Time flies when your having fun, I guess.

After another $300+ they are now back to being active and I can schedule my final pool inpection. ( probably should take the inflatables out of the pool before he shows up)

In the next couple of days I will have a little blurb about actuators and screen logic and pvc, oh my.
