New Pool in Houston, TX - Completed August 2021

Guys, got the test kit in! Any online video on how to use this thing for daily and any weekly/monthly tests that need to be done? I'm super confused looking at all these different liquids.

Also, what is the R-0870 DPD Powder for? I have an extra one with a Chlorine Test liquid.

Thanks in advance!

FAS/DPD Chlorine and pH daily.

TA weekly and before you need to make a pH adjustment

CH & CYA monthly once you know your pool.

Also, what is the R-0870 DPD Powder for? I have an extra one with a Chlorine Test liquid.

R-870 DPD power is used for the FAS/DPD chlorine test. Add a scoop or two of power to a 10 ml sample and it turns red. Count the drops of R-0871 until the sample goes clear and divide by 2 ( or multiply by 0.5) for FC.

Put them away. Pull out the instructions and block off everything but one test with blank sheets of paper. The instructions could not be simpler or written better. One easy peasy sentence at a time.

take each test and scan it for its bottles. Forget the others. If you have 3 green ones and 4 blue ones over there, that’s no concern. Get the ones you need and uncap them to have them ready. It’s much easier to follow along this way.

My PB said I could have plaster start tomorrow. Any specific things I need to know or do?

For now, here's all I have on my to-do list:

1) Get a reading of my water meter before they start filling, starting in the deep end, right?
2) Be sure to bypass my water softener to ensure water pressure doesn't drop during fill and also to ensure I have calcium in the water

I read the plastering article here and it talks about very specific things to do, like the ratio of the mixtures, etc. I think I'll leave it up to the Pebble Tec plasterers to do all that and just trust their doing it properly. Anything else that I can easily do myself though?

Thanks,
Neil

These are the notes I have made based on best practices I have read on the forum.
Day of Plaster

Clean up around the pool area the day before - brush any dirt/mud or debris that could be tracked into the pool during or after plaster

Verify that the bags of plaster are the proper type and color you selected on morning of plaster.

Take a sample of the mixture when they are applying it to the pool by pouring some in a small clear plastic cup (good for reference later)

Do they have all the proper return nozzles and drain covers (type and color) to place after plaster installed

Have you tested your fill water? Are you filling with softened water or regular tap water?

Have your hose ready (and clean) as it will be laying in the pool.

Tie a sock or cloth around the nozzle so it does not sit on the plaster

Ensure you take note (or a picture) of your water meter reading before you start to fill

Be prepared to take note of your water meter as the pool reaches certain levels, i.e bottom of bottom step, top of bottom step, etc. (it helps in the future to know volume of your pool at certain levels - should you ever have to drain portion of it)

Plan to set an alarm every 4 hours (or so) to ensure hose is still in pool, no debris blew into pool, etc.

Take a picture of any chemicals they bring on site that they plan to dump in when they start to add water to pool

Continue to fill pool to center of water tile or center of skimmer. Take picture of water meter at end of fill

Get clear instructions from PB as what to do the day the pool is full - how often to brush, will the pump be turned on, etc.

Define with PB when he will be back out to set up water chemistry.

Hope this helps.

The acid wash is scheduled for today but I noticed this water leak or something in the spa today, no other place but this one. I checked with my PB and he said that it's normal and the crew will clean it up today.

This doesn't look normal but you guys probably know more than me. Thoughts?

We're filling up now! :cool::party:

Would having multiple hoses (3) from the same home fill 3x faster? I'm trying to figure out the time I'd need to move the hoses to the spa and would want to set an alarm if it happens to be at night when everyone is asleep. 😆

Thanks

We have pool filled! Started yesterday at 3:15pm and ended with about 17,400 gallons (after subtracting 300 for typical water consumption) at 1PM today, so 22 hours later.

From excavation in mid-April to pool fill mid August, it took us just under 4 months to finish. But we signed in mid January, lol.

Now, onto start up. My PB said they'll have someone out next week for official startup but came by today to briefly explain what I should do. He said to cycle the filtering between pool and spa manually for now and just brush all the dirt or debris towards the drains.

I'll read through the start up instructions posted earlier by Kim and see what I need to do until then.
