Hi,

New home owner that has a Hayward H250ED2 heater for an inground pool. I am receiving error code 1F when trying to start the heater. I've figured out that is an ignition failure code. The gas valve is very tight but I've tried it in several positions to determine which is "on" but can't get past the code. Any suggestions on next steps?

The supply shut-off there is open .. open = parallel to the pipe. Check tank valve also (lefty-loosey is open, righty-tighty is closed ). If your tank has a pressure gauge, make sure it is reading non-zero. The tank might just be empty.

Revised: hmm is this natural gas? I was thinking it was propane, but that piping looks more like Natural Gas. Is it connected to the house supply?

Yes, this is natural gas connected to the house.

Does the line go through your wall from the basement? It is possible that there is another shutoff on that line, perhaps in the basement somewhere.
I found the line in the basement which was off, turned that on but am still having the same issue (1F error code). When turning on the unit you can hear a click like it is trying to light, but doesn't. It doesn't look like there is a manual pilot light, assuming auto ignition, but not working. Pic of inside if that's helpful. Thank you

Looks like there are a lot of spider webs down around the burners... it's possible they are blocking the pilot jet or the flame sensor. Get a can or two of compressed air (dust-off) and see if you can blow that nonsense out of there.

That looks like it is in poor condition.

When was it installed?

What is the serial number?

The gas line is not compliant with the installation manual or probably local code.

The heater is not safe to operate until it is inspected and brought up to code.

Most likely, the heater is not worth putting any money into.

If you really want a heater, you probably need a new one.

Make sure that it is installed in full compliance with the local code and the installation manual.

The folks are probably right that you should have a pro as that flexible tube is probably not up to code. But it is possible that the ignitor may be bad. My previous heater had an ignitor that I had to replace a few times.

Hayward ignitors may look like this. Does your heater have one of those?

Thanks everyone for the feedback. We recently bought the house so I am unsure when this was installed, if it worked previously, or any other information regarding code. I'm following the advice to get a technician out to the house to take a look, hard to do this time of year!

A bit of an open ended question but does anyone have a thought on at what repair cost it would make sense for me to just get a new heater all together?

Hi, I just posted the problem I had with the IF code and the way I fixed it. - John
