Bought a home and over my head

Alright guys I’m back. If I refilled the pool redid the numbers and added chlorine according to the app to do a SLAM. I tested the water and my FAS-DPD and it’s still not turning pink

Not enough chlorine then. You should also add stabilizer to avoid having the sun burn off all your chlorine too fast which sounds like maybe what happened.

I did add stabilizer as the app said as well I did all the tests my CYA was 0 cause of course I drained it, I added a gallon of cya liquid into the pool. It was a horrible green this morning and it just cleared up a lot this afternoon. I’m trying to upload a picture of a part in my pool that I don’t know what it is but it keeps saying file is too big so bare with me. I hate doing anything with technology

Bperry, the little bit of water that was left was a lot of algae and I scrubbed a lot of it off the sides, could that be why it ate up the chlorine as well? I appreciate you helping me I feel
Like a toddler.

If your test says there’s no chlorine and the water was green yesterday get some more chlorine in there ASAP.

Keep adding a gallon at a time until it registers on the FAS-DPD test. Also check the CYA once a day until it registers?

how large is your pool? Your signature doesn’t show that.

I have not read all the posts, but I want to give you encouragement - we bought a home 5.5 years ago, with an unground pool in unknown condition, with a bunch of equipment missing. with TFP forums and guidance, we go our pool up and running from no knowledge to loving the method and pool life. You can do it!

I recommend that you look up the manufacturer and model of each piece of equipment, and download any user/instruction manuals you can. It looks like you have a cartridge filer. While you scoop debris and add liquid chlorine as recommended above, you can get to know your equipment and how to use/open/maintain your specific set up.

Which ones?
All of them. Everything you test for
pH
FC
CC
CH
CYA
TA
Salinity...etc

We need all of them because they are all inter-related. Also include the test that you ran since you can get Cl reading for OTO or FAS/DPD test. FAS is more precise and accurate. Also can you put your equipment in your signature? it provides a ready reference for us to make recommendations. You can leave out the bathroom water heater ;)

He's asking for new numbers after the refill so we can help more specifically. :)

Please do be sure to read the article for the SLAM Process carefully - it's not a one-time dump of chlorine, it's a process of maintaining the chlorine up at SLAM level by testing as often as you can (at least 2-3 times a day, up to once an hour or so) and adding more chlorine to top it off. Keeping the chlorine up at that level is what will kill off all the algae in the quickest and safest way possible. :)

That helped thank you!

I dumped hella chlorine in there and re read the SLAM article as suggested. I’m an idiot sandwich. As far as my pool equipment goes, I’m still trying to figure that out so bear with me. I have an 11 month old that is trying to show me that she can in fact out herself in dangerous situations at all time. I do have a question about my skimmer, it looks like parts are missing. There’s a basket sitting on top and in there there’s just two cylinder shapes. I tried to get a good pic but I suck. (Please see idiot sand which reference above.) how often do cartridge filters need to be changed?
