They should both have thumb screw like plugs. Usually 2 and near the bottom of the sides.

This last blackout lasted a while - had about 4-5, and my filter is busting. I was just starting to drain everything, power comes back on but it's leaking at every joint and the strap. Had to rip part of the fence off to get to the heater drain on the exchanger. I hope it's all going to survive this - except the filter most likely.

Serious question, why are you having blackouts? Are they cutting power on purpose or are lines going down and redirecting?

Pretty sure you get them in the summer when AC demand is through the roof. A lot of their area uses electric heat because heat is not really needed much. But now it is and they are sucking KWs like you guys in August. If they have strategic shut downs while redirecting they can save some blowouts/brownouts/ actual blackouts

Demand is too high. We ramp up in the summer with the older and less desirable power plants to keep up with summer demand. I guess it’s not that easy to just turn those back on for a 1-2 week stretch of weather.
We are also the nations largest wind producer, which is great, until the dang things freeze up with ice. 50% of the wind turbines are offline currently, according to some news reports.
Yeah here in Texas, demand is outstripping supply so they are rotating blackouts to manage it.
We have 8 inches of snow on the ground, 6 degrees. My wife and I covered the entire equipment pad in multiple sheets and two tarps, using the filter and a saw horse as a "tent pole". I took my bedside table lamp, put in a 3 stage incandescent bulb (the only one I still have left), turned it up to 150W, and it's down right cozy under there. In fact, it's kept my water temp no less than 43 degrees, which is mind boggling to me.

Luck number 7 underway. Seems like we get 45 min on and 15 mins off. Winter is fun.
Is it keeping your house fairly warm? We had a plant in WI and they said up there if your heat goes out your in trouble when it's -20 below

My Pool is about 80-90% covered by ice - except where my returns are hitting the surfaces. So far I am surviving, pump equipment tarped and space heater running 24/7. Water temp is 33, Air Temp is 1. Every hour or two i dump a bucket of hot water in the skimmer to make sure no ice accum in there. I have a plaster pool so I am breaking up the ice where I can. I need to make it about 24 hours before we get some sunshine relief.

Ended up finding schematics for my pump and booster and was able to get one plug out of the main pump and the one out of the booster. The other on the pump I can’t get leverage on to turn it. It’s in a tight spot. I need a child hand... Power has been out nearly 4 hours and the pool is icing over, so I’m glad I did it. I hope not getting that second plug isn’t going to still ruin the pump, but if it does, it does. I’ve done all I can do. Opened the air valve on top of the filter but couldn’t get the main cap off. The pump has been draining for a couple of hours though so I’m a little worried about how much water will come out of the pool. It’s not coming from the drains at the bottom of the pool is it?? It’s down to the bottom of the tile now. Ugh. I hate all of this!
It might be. Where is the equipment in regards to the water line ? If you equipment is below the waterline you will siphon water from the pool until the two are equal.
Do any of you have generators that can keep things running during the blackouts? Had a 3 day power outage this past summer and was very glad to have had a generator to keep the food cold and the pool running.
We have a 17kW Generac natural gas generator, but I have actually never used it beyond firing it up every other month to make sure it starts. I am not even sure it will run pool pumps if I am also drawing power into house for refrigerator, lights, etc. I'd also be hesitant to run it all night, just because I worry about things going bump in the night and causing disasters.
