Yes.. the red and black go to the lights.. They get constant power now, so you are adding Aux 2 in series with with the lights so you can shut them off or turn them on.

Looks good to me. Test the lights and see that AUX2 turns them on and off. Then with the lights on press the TEST button on the GFCI outlet and it should trip and turn off the lights. If it passes the tests you are good to go.
It is fed from the main house panel. We've had the pool for 15 years and the pump for around 4, never an issue until this attempted "upgrade". I appreciate you trying to help!

Electrical codes are revised every 3 years and the requirements for pool electrical safety have changed with every revision. Existing stuff is grandfathered and it is up to you if you want to bring your equipment up to the current codes when you do an upgrade.

Good to know. If I ever find someone in town that seems to actually know what they are doing I will have them look over everything and make sure we are doing it as safely as possible. That seems to be a big if..

I think I'll just let him move on. It's hard to find knowledgeable people in most trades here in Vegas. I wonder why people can't just say "I don't know how to do that"!

Try being in Laughlin and have to have them come from Vegas. Pay for the time and mileage and then they do not know how/what to do!
