Possible New Pool In Central FL

@ajw22
I'd assume as long as the structure was correct I could move and add lights and returns as I wanted but I'm not sure.

You just have to get a final set of plans that is correct so all the trades can build off of. You are not going to be standing above it all yelling at folks what to do. The rebar needs to be properly framed, plumbers need to know where to pipe to, electricians need to wire to the light locations.

I don't get this change during the build. Verbal communication is ripe for screwups with contractor crews who may not even speak good english. Everyone needs to be building to the same plans.

True...… Finally she changed the returns! I know nothing else changed but it's a small victory.

Returns are pretty much where I placed them. I would place the skimmers where I showed. I think you will get a lot of surface debris pushed to the lower right of the pool where that skimmer in the middle will not catch it. Water does not flow like a dart to hit that skimmer in the middle fo the right wall.

I agree with you on this one however, I think I'm going to make up a set of plans that I print off here for all the trades to work to. It took me 6 times of telling this engineering that there was dead spots in the pool (and where they would be) before they changed them. I also can't get them to tell me if the bond beam is 10" thick like I requested.

I did send the request though and we will see.... I'm ready to get out of the engineering phase and onto the next thing this has taken way more back and fourth than it really should have (part of the problem is the engineering company isn't local)

The changes we are talking about are not structural. And there are always on the job changes between as-designed and as-built.

Mark date and version on your plans so you can ensure that everyone is working off the current version that you give out. Over time you will have given contractors different versions of the plans.

On the job site have a plastic box on a post with copies of the plans. So any contractor can go and take a copy if they can't find theirs. Check regularly at the pages in contractors hands that they are current and being followed.

Thanks for the info

Beautiful design!. my only comment is to consider solar with the heat pump back up. The solar will keep the pool warm while the pump works with the spa.

Thanks for the thought we've never really thought about heating the pool and being in Florida we thought it would be pretty warm all the time during the summer months. We did think about expanding our electrical solar system to cover the pump and heater operating costs. Unfortunately the side of the house with the equipment is on the worst side for solar heating (I'm also terrified with how these hold up during hurricanes).

Need thoughts/opinions on something. We planned the Pentair bubblers in the sunshelf with the globrite to light them up. We changed to the 4 intellibrite lights on the recommendation of @ajw22 (thank you). Should we leave the lights in the bubblers (tied with the waterfalls) to allow for multiple color effects or should we remove them?

Or should we look at the CMP bubblers (using CMP Brilliant Wonders waterfalls) Brilliant Wonders® 8" LED Bubbler - CMP

They work fine and are cheaper. You pay alot for name brand lites and they just domt last. Nothing really does the best bang for buck is old school lights with led bulbs in them. As Allen stated make sure the engineering is the way you want it. Half the plans out there are cut and paste of others not from scratch. It's your pool and your money. I deviate from plans all the time alot of engineers dont know what I know.... my hands are always dirty....manicured hands know what they're taught

I like the idea of lights in the bubblers. When you have parties it is a great light show. Hurricane Irna's eye went right over my house and all I lost was two clips from the solar panels.

In Central Florida it can get cold in the winter at night. Solar heat will keep it a little warm but in the winter, you probably wont use the pool anyway. We're in Naples which is warmer than Central florida and in the winter the solar keeps it at about 76-80 degrees.

Lighted bubblers really give your pool a little something extra at night. Just illuminating them from a separate light just doesn't create the same effect. Unfortunately, I've seen a lot of pool owners in these parts misuse their bubblers by trying to use them to create their own little backyard Bellagio. When set too high like that, the noise, etc. can get annoying.

We use ours a lot! Anytime we are back by the pool, whether we're swimming or not, especially at night. I set them to rise about 6 to 8" above the surface. At that height they create a beautiful effect, don't splash, and create a very subtle and soothing 'babbling brook' sound. With that background ambiance, just TRY not to doze off in the evening while lounging by the pool after a long day.

That said.......

Make sure your bubbler lights can be controlled independently from the rest of the pool lights. Ours were originally tied in with the pool lights, so they were on and the same color as the rest of the lights. It looked beautiful, as long as the bubblers were activated. With the bubblers going, the light shining up is nicely diffused and blends well with the rest of the lighting scheme. However with the bubblers not active, the light is very bright and to me, somewhat distracting. Remember, the lights are pointing straight up, under just inches of water. It's bright. We had ours reprogrammed so we have the option to turn their lights off if for some reason we're not bubbling.

Another alternative that @bdavis466 likes is to put in bubblers without lights and position a light on the side that will shine into the water plume. It makes the lights more useful when you are not running the bubbler.

Right now we have the pool lights on 1 transformer and the water features on a second one. We are also running a VS pump for this so it will give us the ultimate flexibility for the water features. We aren't sure if we're going to do automation valves on these yet or not.

Guess I never thought about using the bubbler light without the bubbler on.

You will be using the lights more often then the bubbler at night. And chances are the entertainment of the bubbler will wear off after a while.

Thanks for the input with a microbite on the sunshelf do you think something else is needed when bubblers are not in use?

Either did we. I Just thought they went on and off with the bubbler. The way I was programmed, they went on and off with the rest of the pool lights, regardless if the bubbler was on or not. Changed it pretty quickly.
