New Construction - Granbury, Texas

What about stair rails? I really do not want them because I don't like the look of them but my husband wants to know when they are necessary to have...
Its funny, you almost never see personal pools with rails in TX. I totally get why people have them, and they seem to be the norm in other parts of the country. I never even considered one in our build, nor did I know they were even a thing in other parts of the country until I came to this site.

With that said, if you think you would ever want one, now would be the time. I believe there are removable options so you dont have to look at them if you dont want to.

I understand this for sure, are stair rails something that can be added later pretty easily? My 87-year-old MIL lives with us but she will not be in the pool often if ever.

You are limited in the style of hand rails you can add later as they have to well anchored and bonded. In general the add on hand rails are ugly.

If you at all think your MIL may need it you should have a removable rail installed with the anchors properly installed in the deck and then remove the railing and store it until you need it.

@Jimrahbe added a railing to his pool.

Rebar done today. Plumbing planned for tomorrow but we are expecting rain ?

It's amazing how much the pool builders are charging for the upgrade to the Intellicenter and it's one of the reasons why I decided to go owner/builder.
My husband says that every day, he built our house but didn't really want to mess with a pool but as he's watching it come together he like "I could have and should have built this pool myself"
We love our contractor but it's hard giving up the control and not always agreeing...we are still trying to figure out equipment and such

I think we have figured out our equipment, we decided not to go with the IntelliCenter but rather the EasyTouch 8. Is there anything I am forgetting or do you see any problems?

PENTAIR EASYTOUCH 8 WITH SCREEN LOGIC 2

PENTAIR INTELLIFLO VS 011028

PENTAIR CLEAN AND CLEAR PLUS CARTRIDGE FILTER – CCP520

POLARIS PB4SQ BOOSTER PUMP (CLEANER PUMP) FOR POLARIS 280 - NO DOLPHIN - we have a lot of trees around and will be brushing our pool weekly

MASTERTEMP 400 – NATURAL GAS

RAINBOW AUTOMATIC IN-LINE CHLORINATOR 320 WITH CHECK VALVE

DIVERTER VALVES (JANDY VALVES) NO BALL VALVES

2 LED COLOR LIGHTS

2 HP AIR BLOWER

6 JETS IN SPA

2 SKIMMERS

2 BUBBLERS ON TANNING LEDGE

SHEER RAIN DECENT OFF OF SPA

Plumbing was done today but not inspected, we will be doing gunite either tomorrow afternoon or Friday. :)

Good job on the pump and filter.

I'm not sure I'm following the logic on the Polaris over the Robot, because you have trees and will be brushing weekly.

The automation and swcg is a dead horse, so I wont go there. Glad you at least ended up with a real automation you can control with your phone and other devices.

My only comment is to make sure that is what you want before you sign. Its okay to push a PB to learn something new :)

I figured I would give up that fight and settle for the EasyTouch since it may not be as cool but will do everything we need.

I talked to the PB again today but he is still pushing the PSL4 so I just told him I would send him the list of what we wanted and we would go from there. Wish us luck

How much you want to bet he has a warehouse with those stacked in it ready to sell to anyone he can talk into them.
That's exactly what I was wondering or if they get a killer price on a bundle with that included. I'm just happy we decided to look into the equipment and not just take what was offered because I feel we would be very unhappy.

Now is also a good time to ask what test kit your PB will be providing so we can fill in any holes.

Our contractor just asked if we want white or black fixtures, he said most people choose black...

Could I get some input/ opinions and if anyone has pictures of their fitting and if you have Caribbean Blue Stonescapes would be wonderful

I have attached the pictures of our tile and we plan to use Caribbean Blue Stonescapes

Excuse my newness, but I've seen the phrase "owner/builder" a few times and I'm not sure what that means. Can you explain?

I didn't hire a pool builder to oversee the construction of the pool. Instead, I contracted each phase of the pool myself (Engineer, excavation, plumber, electrician, etc.) Most, if not all, of pool builders don't actually do any of the work themselves, they just subcontract it out to other companies.

Not the same finish, but similar, and we chose black fittings. Here is a picture of the deep end drains right after fill:
