The Pool is almost done... Roseville, Ca.

As you can see on the preliminary sketch up, we have narrowed it down to size and shape. Looking over all the threads I have narrowed down what we want for the most part. thoughts on depth 9' and step configurations would be great. Placement of deck jet, more or less... and any other feature would be great.

My only other comment is about the deck jets. Apparently from my years here I've learned they can be quite fun for about.... oh....45 minutes, tops. Then they're annoying and rarely get turned on. Make too much splash noise which interferes with chatting. Just something to be aware of.

A lot of folks only run these items for short periods at a time such as during parties or while swimming. One does need to run them for a few minutes daily to keep the water held within refreshed with chlorine.

Thanks, Maddie. The deck jets are for pure show. They will probably only be on during back yard parties and such. I have a somewhat large back yard so I hope the noise won't be too loud.

I just did a quick glance so will address the thing that stood out to me...........3' is too shallow. You will scrape your knuckles on the floor trying to do a good crawl stroke. THEN add in going to that WONDERFUL 9' you will have quite a slope going on. I would go to 4' it not 4'5" for the shallow end.

More ideas to come when I have a bit more time.

Thanks, Kim, I did have a momentary thought that it may be quite a big drop from 3’ to 9’. I have a 6 and a 10-year-old and was worried that my daughter would not be able to stand in the shallow end. My son is 5’2” so it would be a problem for him, but they will also be growing. Thanks for the suggestion and will add a little more depth to the shallow end. What is average?

Agree with Kim's thoughts on depth. 9' is very deep for a 30' long pool, meaning yes, very steep. Especially if you want an area that goes out 4 or 5' some distance. I highly encourage you to map out the desired depths at one or two feet increments along the length of the pool to see if it makes sense. Note that the pool cross-section is not to scale, as noted - not even close to scale.

A few questions:

Is their going to be a diving board or is this just to accommodate diving from the side, or fun underwater swimming?

How far out in the shallow section length-wise, do you want a 5'4" average height US woman to be able to stand? I say that because of parties and such. If you only care about your family then use those heights. That would be the point where the depth is roughly 4' 4-6". A foot or 10" less depth than your height puts the water level below the chin. But don't count children's heights. Pools are about the long-term and kids grow FAST.

Just for reference. Our pool is 8' 6" deep. The pool is 5' deep at the halfway point, 19' in. We have a diving board.

I would go with 4' as the shallow point and try to maximize your 4-5' deep space, then have a steep drop off to the 9' section.

Also I would make sure you understand the steps that come off of the tanning ledge. They run 1/2 the length of the pool, so I would assume they would have to change as you get deeper, possibly adding a step or two at some point in the slope. I might consider only having the steps on the far right of the tanning ledge to avoid this.

We will not be having a diving board. I just wanted it deep because I didn't want the kids and or adults diving in a 6 ’ pool and banging into the ground every time as I do.

Maybe the 9’ deep is too the extreme? I have the pool drawn with spray paint on my grass now. I will map it out on the ground and see how it pencils out. I'll post a diagram and go from there. Thanks for all the input.

I would caution against a steep slope. A person could be walking in the shallow end and suddenly caught off guard plunging into water over their head. Also heading from the deep to shallow end you are liable to stub your toe or foot into the steep wall. Ask me how I know.

So I took everyone's comments and applied to what I think will be good. Please take a look and give me any feedback.
- I changed to 7'6" in the deep end and made the shallow end a little deeper.
- I added 2 intellibright 5G lights on either end and 2 glowbrites in the cabo shelf
- I listed almost everything being installed on the left side of the plans

I planned on 8 feet water depth.

The excavators I contracted put the pool about 6 inches lower than everything else in my backyard yard (they got the elevation wrong by not looking at the plans - among a few other obvious errors that they made by not referring to the plans). So I made them change the beam forms to the proper height before the steel phase.

But since they had already dug the deep end and couldn't back fill it up again, and it was dug a little too deep anyway, I am ending up getting an 8' 9" deep pool. I am happy about that.

The shallow end is 3' 9". I have a steep descent to maximize the shallow area. I don't think it will be a problem. But I will let you know once I get it filled (hopefully in the next few weeks).

3'9" isn't a depth we often see..... I kinda like the idea of it for folks who are a bit on the fence about going up to 4' for entry depth. Please let us know how you like it once warm enough to get in, 'K?

PM me the contractor who dug your pool, make sure if its the same guy, I watch him or her more carefully. Who is building your pool?

Got new renderings of the pool. I think we decided on the ones with the step-outs in the deep end. Plans are going to the city next week for approval and the digging should begin

I sometimes hate putting in my opinion for the way that it can be taken but here goes. Your pool is very similar in shape and size to mine. Really think about the bubblers on the wet deck. I have one bubbler on the wet deck and it can be quite noisy when trying to have a conversation. If I’m reading your plans correct it looks like you have two glo-brights on the wet deck. You could use the bubblers with the built in lights and eliminate the glo-brights. If you are going to be swimming the length of the pool at night, consider changing the location of the LED lights as you will be swimming directly into them. If this isn’t something you will be doing, they are going to be awesome. Finally, put umbrella sleeves everywhere! Track the sun throughout the day and identify the areas you will want shade and place the sleeves in those areas. Good luck on the build. Look forward to watching it.
