Our New Pool Build and The FUN (i.e. Stress) that Goes Along with it!

With your pool being an inground it will be a little harder than I have with my above ground. Get in the pool OR kneel down by the closest return to the skimmer. Have the hose attached to the vacuum head (that is a nice one you posted just make sure it does not have wheels) and the pole already in place and in a place you can grab it. Put the other end of the hose in front of the return so the water is being pushed into the hose. It may cause the vacuum head to raise up. No big deal just make sure you can get to the pole when you are ready. When the hose is full of water keep it under the water and walk/take the hose over to the skimmer and put it in to the pool side skimmer hole and onto the plate connection. This is the hard part. Oh and make sure the pump is on when you do this. I also close my main drain so all of the suction is coming from the skimmer.

I decided to look at the skimmer closer today, and now that I can see in.

I don't understand what the two holes are for. The one on the right that doesn't have water in it seems to have a bottom.... As in it stops.. I can't see into it. It had a bunch of debris in it. What is that pipe for?
****FURTHER RESEARCH HAS INDICATED that this is an optional equalizer or suction port, which we don't have. So it must be capped off inside. ****

I bought a 1.5" Hayward screw on cap to cap off the skimmer suction pipe for plaster. The cap I got screws on to the suction pipe but the pipe doesn't seem to have threads. I asked my PM to PLEASE ensure there is a cap for plaster time, since he said that if plaster gets in there it WILL harden and cause an obstruction.
I can set the one I have on top but it doesn't screw on it go on super tight to create a good seal.
so what cap do I need... any suggestions? All the ones I see for Hayward suction outlets are screw on....

Thanks!
Are they pretty easy to get out?

I see there are various types. The one I see on Amazon that others state they've used on a skimmer pipe is #8, so it's tapered. I'll get that one I guess.

The one I originally got is the threaded Hayward one below it. Was a waste of 4 bucks ☺

We're filling with water today!
We have a huge oak tree hovering over our deep end and it's blessing us with a bumper crop of acorns this year (perfect timing! ☹).
We bought a net cover for the pool since we can't use a robot vac for a month (we will have a manual vac but not until startup in 2 days) and we put the cover on right after they started filling.
Tonight when we got home, we saw it caught a bunch of acorns but there are stains already ? ....even in the shallow end where there's no debris.
We will try and get them removed after were able to start brushing. But I'm so sad about this. Not even 3 hours and it's already got a bunch of marks that we tried so hard to avoid. ?

I am so glad I have TFP... You guys are awesome!
Our PM and I have discussed he ongoing battle we will have against this tree, and he keeps saying to cut an angle on the bottom of a PVC pipe, put it over the spot and drop some shock granule down it.
What do you think about that vs. using a puck? (Whether that be now or years from now)

Have a brush ready to use so you can help it dissolve. Start with 2 mins and see how that does. Move it up 2 mins sitting time each time BUT I would NOT got more than 6 mins due to the new plaster.

Ok thank you!
We won't have the brush until startup in a couple days. I did buy a pole and leaf rake today which helped get debris that fell on before we were able to get the net on.
I'll have to get shock and all that stuff still. ?

What color is your plaster?

I would wait on treating the stains until after the first 28 days and your plaster has cured some. The stain is not going anypalce and will wait there until you work on it.

Your risk is bleaching the color out of the plaster with too much chlorine on the surface.

It's "Marina" diamond Brite, I think?
Not sure on the manufacturer.

Hopefully brushing will help between that time.

Will they not fade over time? I had heard most stains like these will.

They've delayed our startup 2 more days because it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow.. so our water will not be circulating and we will not be adding any chemicals to it, nor brushing the new plaster for basically 4 days.
They say it's fine... but.................. we're skeptical. I really was looking forward to getting the water circulating.

City water can have a wide range of chemistry. Knowing what you are starting with can help plan what chemicals will be required and when it will be best to tackle the stains.

You are asking us what you should do. We can’t tell you without knowing your starting point.

I really wish they would have come for startup today like originally planned. They said not until Monday afternoon now because the rain we are supposed to be getting today will just knock the chemicals down anyway.

I also really wish they would have come so that we could have our startup kit with the brush. I would have liked to try and brush over the stains and see if they come up any. Maybe I will pick one up when I go to the pool store today to look at/pick up the test kit.

I would also love to be able to vacuum the small debris that's getting through the net cover. I just can't help but feel like we're at a slight disadvantage in starting off on a good foot with the pool. I could go buy all of this stuff but it's just going to wind up being a waste of $ for duplicates of everything we will get in a couple of days, and $ is already tight because of the whole project.

Should I test the water now and post the results, and/or wait until after they come to do startup chemicals?
