New IG build League City, TX

Let the MUD begin!

I am going ahead to give you your "job" for this part of the build. When they leave head out to the mud pit with your plans and a measure tape. Is it deep, wide, long, etc enough? Add about 8" to each wall and the bottom for the steel, guinite, and plaster.

Kim:kim:

I definitely plan on measuring everything when they’re done. After they leave of course! Pictures of mud just don’t do it justice. To see this much mud up close(especially since it’s rained for like a month and a half here) is really amazing. Wow, that’s a lot of mud!!!! They ended up accessing my yard from the front b/c the easement behind my house was way too muddy. They were afraid their trucks would get stuck.

Perfect weather for it this next few days!

Yes, finally!!!! I rained pretty much all of September and most of October. I’m just glad this thing is finally going. It took us about a month before we finally got permits. Once the permits came through, it started raining again. Hooray for sunshine!

Congratulations. We're in Argyle and at the end of September we went from excavation to gunite in like 3 business days and then tile and coping took a little. And then the rain hit. We have mud everywhere and since they had to access our backyard from the front I have what is basically a driveway in my front yard and there is mud everywhere. We pour the deck on Monday. Not sure why we couldn't pour the deck today with an 80 degree and sunny day.

That was pretty fast! The guys were done by 3:45pm. They even managed to clean all the mud off of the driveway. That was a ton of mud. Rebar is scheduled for Monday.

Thanks! Hope your build is going well. My PB said dig to gunite will be quick but that it will slow down after that. I know they want to get to gunite quickly before the rains return. It’s possible they didn’t pour your deck today because they are behind on jobs with all the rain that Texas has had. But yes, today was a beautiful kind of day we haven’t had in awhile.

The rain has just been relentless since the middle of August. I know it’s supposed to start back up again on Wednesday. Hopefully you’ll have some gunite that will enjoy getting wet!

Gunite is scheduled for Wednesday so hope it can get done before we get too much rain. On the plus side, it should be sunny again after Wednesday. This Seattle type weather stinks. I don’t think I could live there.

They did what???? NICE! Got to love people who go the extra mile!

So...........did you do your "job" yet? What is that line in the deep end?

Kim:kim:

Just measured everything. I’m not exactly sure that I measured from the exact points on the plan but everything is longer than the specs by 20in to 2-feet. I know this is to account for the thickness of the gunite. Does this sound about right?

Do excavators not normally clean off driveways? I’m pretty happy with how the dig went.

I took a picture. Do you mean this line?

I think that is where the main drains will go???

Main drain sounds about right to me. Nice looking excavating work. As for the driveway mess …. I wouldn't hold my breath. :) At least you should have nice weather for a few days.

Thanks! I hope the weather will stay good enough for me to get some gunite this week. As for the driveway, they did clean up their messs! I think that’s what Impressed kimkats.

Got it! Yeppers that is the main drain line.

Yeah there are some trades that do not clean up behind them selves :( They get in and out as fast as they can without regard to the mess they are leaving behind. I would see if you can find out their company name and give them a shout out on your local Yelp and Google reviews.

So long as the measurements came out more then you are good! You are looking for general size and making sure it is close to the correct size. Bigger is better than smaller. Like you said the gunite and plaster will fill some of it.

Yeah no kidding. I'm in the middle of a build and the subs leave everything. Water bottles everywhere. There is water in the pool from rain and a lot of stuff floating in there and also at the bottom. Pieces of wood, water bottles, cans. If they come back from lunch they put their fast food drink down and they're done with it, it stays where they put it. I wish they would really clean up after themselves. Right now, for me, it is all about getting this mess cleaned up and getting my yard cleaned up than even thinking about using the pool. lol.

Congrats on getting started! It will be very messy for sure but all will be well in the end...

Thanks ctrav! Dig day was muddy. I can only imagine what it will be like when they trench for gas/electricity/plumbing!!

One PO went so far as to put a trash can by the pool and they still made a mess

So far I have been fortunate. The excavators put stuff in the trash bag I left out and so have the rebar and plumbers. I did bring out an ice chest with water and Gatorade so perhaps that helped. Either way, I’m happy thus far.
