Rebar and plumbing got done today! Those rebar guys were quick. I say quick but it was probably around 5-hours to rebar the whole thing. They moved quickly like they may have done this before! Plumbing was done quickly as well. I know it took way less time than the rebar guys. When they were all done, they covered the sides with plastic. Not sure what the point of that is. Overall I think it looks good. They used tiny bricks cut in half to prop the rebar off of the bottom. I assume that’s ok?

Tomorrow it is supposed to be inspected by the city and Wednesday we are scheduled for gunite. It is supposed to rain Wednesday but it shouldn’t rain till evening. It would be great to get gunite during done before any rain. At least the forecast calls for sunny days after that.

Also got to speak with my project manager today. He was measuring everything to make sure it was up to spec. Found out that I should be able to connect to my Aquaplus automation wirelessly. My router is on the other side of the wall where the equipment is going. We tested and got full signal strength. I thought I was going to have to run a wire out there.

We also spoke about tying in the downspouts from the gutter to the deck drain. I didn’t have the gutters prior to signing the contract. I hope it doesn’t cost too much. I think this would be preferable instead of them draining onto the deck and staining it.

He also dropped off a book with all the signed papers/permits/design. It had instructions for various tasks including watering gunite and prepping yard for spray deck. It had a chart for keeping track of water chemistry. It even had a list of the subcontractors they use. Had some other things too that I can’t think of. It wasn’t anything fancy but I thought it was nice.

That’s all I got for now. Hopefully my next pic’s will be from gunite day.

Nice to hear of professional, well-run operations! Kudos to your crew!

Funny how the plumber and the grader had different ideas about that drain line!

The half-blocks are correct. They ensure the rebar will be embedded in the middle of the gunite, for maximum strength, and not laying on the dirt, even after the pour, where it would rust out.

Down spouts to drainage system is the way to go. For sure.

NICE! Huge steps done for sure! The plastic is just in case it rains before the shell is done. It will help keep the walls from caving in.

Will you be able to be there for the gunite day? Some times the crew has ideas or concerns and it is better for the PO to be there to ask about it.

That book is SO neat! That is how it should be!

Great progress so far! Tying in the downspouts to the drainage system shouldn't be much if any costs at all as most builders include that to keep things nice and neat. The rain forecast for Wednesday night will be good for the gunite.

+1 on Kim's suggestion on being there gunite day.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Definitely getting the downspouts tied in. We are scheduled for gunite tomorrow. Hopefully it’ll get done before the rains roll in. It would be a nice Halloween treat!

I will be home tomorrow for gunite!
I think I will move the water hose to that side of the house.

Your PB seems to be doing a very good job...

I’ve been happy so far. No complaints yet. They’ve kept me updated on everything. We primarily communicate via email but they always respond quickly day or night and even on Sundays. We will see how things go. We’ve still got a long way to go before this is done.

Nice, neat work! It’s a good thing communicating via email. You will always have a record. This works both ways too.

I hope you get shot on Halloween [emoji316] (gunite shot that is).

I agree that email is probably the best form of communication. It’s a record for both of us, plus it’s convenient.

I got an email confirmation last night that it is definitely getting shot this morning.

Does it take long to gunite a pool? I don’t think my pool is large. I assume it won’t take all day but I could be wrong. I just want it to be done before the rains roll in.

Did you sleep at all last night???

It does not take ALL day but they have to get every thing set up and covered first THEN do the shooting THEN do the cleaning so........If they show up at your house first thing they should get done before the afternoon. IF need be they can do a fast, thin cover over the dirt to protect from caveins from the rain.

They were here at 7am! I work nights at a hospital so I was awake all night. I came home to my cul de sac and driveway completely blocked by trucks. Luckily my neighbors are awesome so I’m parked in their driveway.

Everything was covered and they were working when I got home.

They should be able to complete it today. The crew that did mine was done in about 3 hours.

Good to know! I was a bit worried about the rains coming this afternoon.

It went pretty well overall. It started to rain when they were just about done. I couldn’t tell exactly what they were doing when it started to rain because of the plastic shielding the house from overspray. I am a little concerned about these two holes:

I know they were going to leave some holes for drains but since these two holes are on the shallow ends I don’t think these are it. Maybe that’s were it was soft and sunk in???

Everything else seems ok near as I can tell.

Is it a big deal that this pipe isn’t centered? It is for one of the 24” scuppers.

It is suppose to rain even even more tonight but then it should be sunny for awhile. I assume it will be safe for me to pull off all of the plastic tomorrow morning so I can water the gunite. I know I need to water the beam and down the wall to the floor, but how long should I be watering? Should I hose one spot for awhile and soak it down or just enough to get it wet?

I think the rain is a good thing. Keeps the new gunite cool, right?

Guess I’ll be trying to keep it cool for the next 7-days!!!

Have the PB guide you about the watering. Those two holes are strange. No clue. They're not your drains, those are in the puddle, under the plastic. When you call the PB about the watering, ask him about the holes!

I plan on sending pics of the holes in the morning. Is it normal to have that much sand and rock at the bottom? Or is it just because it rained while they were shooting the gunite??

That's outside my experience, but I'm pretty sure these are all non-issues. When I had my pool redone, they just deleted the drains. Two similar sized holes. They just filled them in. The sand and rock will be cleaned up. Your finish (pebble, plaster, whatever) heals all...
