PhotoBug:
A 3.5 ppm is not a normal loss in weather like this in NJ, unless you had activity. Although, I am factoring testing error which can be greater than 10%, and also you will consume more chlorine at higher levels, as it is a %, not a flat amount. So you are probably fine with everything.
Test in the a.m. and determine where you are. Then test 8 hours later and then 8 hours more. See where you are in the morning, but remember to keep an eye on the chlorine. If and when you get down to 5 ppm, you should be loosing no more than 2 ppm. Even if you are at a 2.5 ppm loss, that is still fine.
Allows level to drift down to your minimum and and bring up to target either at night or during the day out of the sun, and continue to add enough to add 2 ppm daily (unless you have heavy activity). I always added 2 ppm daily in the a.m. each morning at around 7 p.m. when using liquid only and once a week I would perform the extended tests and would usually skip a day or so, here and there. Keep us posted.
