Ready to give up...6 days pool WONT clear! Help plz

Beautiful pool! Nice job hanging in there! I'd suggest not upping the CYA level if you aren't having huge FC losses (after slam is truly complete)

Our tiny pool is in full sun for at least half the day and we run @CYA/30, with very little FC loss. It keeps the sanitizer cost down and more effective :) (personal preference)

The most important thing is to not let your FC fall below your CYA/FC minimum level =) [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA]

I may leave it alone for a bit to get to learn my pool as is after my testing has passed.

Good to know as my pool is only in full sun for about 5 hours. By 2pm it is in compete shade.

Ok.....it is POURING rain right now. My tests are gonna be all kinds of messed up. Ugh......

Should I shoot for the 4-6 ppm tomorrow morning?

May have to wait another day to run OLTC. RAIN RAIN GO AWAY!

Although you are nearing the end of SLAM Process, you might need to bump FC, to make sure it doesn't fall below minimum =)

Tested this morning and my FC was 5. So I lost 2.5 overnight. It did rain so I will be checking again this afternoon.

Add a little bit of chlorine to bring up your level about 3 ppm more, which will bring you up to 8 ppm., and then test this evening one more time. You should stay a little bit on the high end until you are comfortable and familiar with your pool. Tomorrow morning if you are back to around the same level as this morning, then just keep adding the same amount and stick to this routine for about a week and only test daily in the a.m. before any additions. It appears you are done. Do not worry about if you are over as you will want to obtain an average over 7 days as I wrote in previous posts!

You will now have to experiment for the next few weeks so you can get a good feel of your pool. Congratulations!

My mind is still in SLAM mode and its proving difficult for me to not have my FC at 12. So my question is....if there’s something still lurking and I’m maintain FC 8, will that give it a chance to bloom again? I can’t get into the pipes, light etc and I added some bleach to skimmers, but I’m so nervous about another algae bloom.

SLAM Mode is done. Follow protocol, but keep an eye on chlorine.

If you are testing daily you will notice if consumption goes up without any swimmers or weather interference. As long as you stay within the recommended FC range for your CYA you should be fine. You will become intimately aquainted with your pool and will notice when the water starts to become dull. If you see that happen and FC test backs up a drop in FC level just raise the FC back up and you should be able to get back on track without a slam. Don't delay dosing the pool if you see those signs.

So have you passed all of these criteria?
SLAM said:
You are done when:

  • CC is 0.5 or lower;
  • You pass an OCLT (ie overnight FC loss test shows a loss of 1.0 ppm or less);
  • And the water is clear.
Usually the clear or the CC under 0.5 happens first, once those 2 happen, then it takes a few more days of P.O.P. (pool owner patience) to truly pass that Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. That is the big one you don't want to skimp on! Especially since you had a swamp to begin with =)

Ending the SLAM Process too soon could allow a crop-out bloom/cloudiness to come back.

Once you are confident your numbers are holding, then "trouble-free" maintenance awaits you!

Ok so today. Lost 1ppm during the day. So happy about that. I’m away for 48 hours but my son testing the pool. I’m hoping not much loss over night to pass the test. No rain in forecast so I will keep you informed.

A 1 ppm loss during the day is a great sign (can you be specific on time frames?). Again, as Zea3 mentioned, watch, observe and act. The tell tale signs are there when you go from crystal to cloudy, and eventually to a green swamp. Very easy to catch if you know your pool. Long story short, my water clarity has been lacking lately and I realized that allowing my levels to drop for 2 days below 3 ppm caused some algae. One quick brushing and vacuuming the floor (manually) and one hour later, the pool looked awesome. Passed the overnight. Bottom line is that I know my pool because of testing and tracking.

Another item is that the app and there are members who designed spreadsheets to keep track of your pool levels, whether it be daily, weekly, monthly, etc. Looking at results over time will show the patterns, etc. Search for Jesse's Graph. I have everything saved, but not the link. Thanks!

All good info!! Thank you!!!!

As for my time frame....it was from about 8 am to 8 pm. I am away now so didn’t check it this morning. I’m having my adult kids add 1/2 bottle of bleach daily until I get back to check levels again daily. Don’t want it to cloud up with me being gone so I figured it would be a safe bet to add the bleach daily.

I have the pool math app which I LOVE and I’ve shared it with my kids so we can all record our numbers and they can learn as well how to maintain a crystal clear pool!! Helps when I’m not there...they will know what to do.

Never heard of the spread sheets. I will have to look into that. Thank you!

Just an update. My swamp is officially crystal clear and passed all tests. It’s absolutely sparkling and beautiful!! Been on maintenance for about 4 days now trying to become acclimated to the needs of my pool. Still haven’t swam yet as I was away for a few days then the rain moved in AGAIN. Hopefully I can get in it and enjoy it this week. I will post a few pics tomorrow when the sun is finally shining!

That is terrific! Your pool looks wonderful.... great job doing all that work... I think you can see how easy it is going forward now?

I'm in central jersey and just waiting for this rain and cold weather to go away. Looks like things are about to heat up for awhile... yahoo!
