Refurb - Sachse Tx w/ Bi-Carb Startup

Re: Refurb - Sachse, Tx

Day 6
6:20 PM Readings

pH 8.0 - added 10oz MA targeting 7.8
TA 200
FC 0.4 - Keeping up with sun loss - should be back up to 1.4 in AM

Rinse and Repeat

Cleaned skimmer baskets and pump basket.
I opened the in-line chlorinator and it appears to have 7 3/4 size tabs left. 10-5.25 = 4.75 tabs consumed. It does fill with water from the bottom when in OFF position. So there truly is no OFF.

Re: Refurb - Sachse, Tx

Here you go. If you don't hear back from me you know what happened.......:hammer:

The water is pretty dark without the sun on it. With the sun it is an incredible aqua blue.

We are seeing some blotching on the bottom and don't know if this is normal. It started out as a couple of smaller areas and continues to grow. Not sure if it is the plaster curing good or curing bad.

Now you're just trying to make me worry!

The close up is beautiful! (the pool, not the feet) Gorgeous color, and look at all those sparkles!

I don't know how to tell if it's normal or not. The good thing is... No matter the end result, you know you've done everything possible for your plaster. I have mottling, and most of it I like. It looks very natural. A couple of places don't look natural, and I wonder if that would have happened if I had used the BiCarb start-up. Luckily, it doesn't take away my joy and love for my pool.

You must feel so proud of all your hard work!

Re: Refurb - Sachse, Tx

I meant to reply about your concern over the blotching you're seeing. Contact JamieP, and ask her if she saw anything similar.

Good idea

Day 6
9:30 PM Readings

pH 8.0 - added 10oz MA targeting 7.8
TA 200

Rinse and Repeat

Seems odd that after just 3 hours the pH rose from 7.8 to 8.0 equivalent to what it rose from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM.... does this make sense Brian?

Re: Refurb - Sachse, Tx

Not really but there are a lot of variables at play. Do you have an auto filler?

In regards to the blotchiness, that just the nature of the beast. Some of that is a result of the acid wash because it's actually very difficult to get uniform exposure of the aggregate.

Re: Refurb - Sachse, Tx

I guess I need to post a picture or two to add some life into the thread and get Kimkats :kim:attention. I'll try to do that tonight if time allows.

Oh I have been watching and reading but you are so far over my head with what you are doing I have not jumped in. Brian is doing a great job taking care of you!

Thanks for the pics though! That looks awesome!

No auto filler. I have a line from my irrigation system into the pool on it's own valve/circuit. The system is off due to the 1.5" of rain the other night.

A little dissapointed at this but it is changing every day so what it looks like in 30 days is TBD

Day 7
6:30 AM Readings

Wait for it............................

pH 8.0 - added 10oz MA targeting 7.8
TA 200 - I can tell it is working its way down to 175 because each time the sample gets a little redder with 7th drop
FC 1.0

Rinse and Repeat

Re: Refurb - Sachse, Tx

Day 7
6:00 PM Readings

pH 8.0 - Added 10oz MA targeting 7.8. I am going to check it again at 7:00 to ensure it is actually dropping to 7.8 as predicted. Question: Since the pH scale only goes to 8.0 how much redder would it be at 8.2? Could it be measurement error on my part?
TA 200 - Much closer to 175 than 200 as the 7th drop turned it pretty red but the 8th a little darker red. 180-185 is probably more accurate.
FC 0.2 - Probably closer to 0.1. I added 3 more tabs to chlorinator (I had 6 @ ~50% left) as we have clear sunny and hot days ahead and want to ensure it does not drop to 0. I noticed last night it was 0.4 less (1.4 vs 1.0) than the night before.
CH 160 - Thought I would recheck this mostly to validate my testing procedure as I have become much more profient than I was when I started. Practice makes perfect.

Standby for 7:00 readings

Re: Refurb - Sachse, Tx

Hey I can help with the PH one!!!! The redder it is, the higher into the 8s it is. You can test and dose as soon as every 15 if he pump is running on high to mix it up good. I would even run the brush around where you pour it.

Re: Refurb - Sachse, Tx

Thanks Kim! I thought I remembered earlier testing showing a brighter red so that was my assumption.

Day 7
7:50 PM Readings

pH 8.0 - Added 10oz MA targeting 7.8. I put two other sets of eyes on this result and all agreed it was 8.0

My MA date code is 16 350 which is just shy of two weeks before the end of 2016. Is there a shelf life on MA?

I will be checking again at 8:30 per Kimkats!

p.s. I have a single speed pump so it is always on high! I don't have one of those new fangled motors. I always area brush after adding the MA

I have an idea... After you finish this great refurb of your pool, treat yourself to a 2-speed or vs pump! You deserve it, and it would eventually save you money!

I just treated myself to a new pump motor earlier in the year, a new filter last month, plaster and tile this month, SWG next month. I really looked and thought hard about the VS pumps but the new motor cost me only $225. I can burn lots of electricity for $800 bucks. Maybe for Christmas?

Day 7
8:30 PM Readings

pH 7.8 - Yeah!

I'll check it again at 10:00 along with the TA
