Serious help needed

Looking good but just remember that since CYA is now at 30 that target SLAM/shock level is 12 and Mustard algae is 18.2. Yes in the sun it will come down fast but want to be careful how much time it stays near 18 and you do not want to go above 18. Just as long as you are mindful of these but looking good overall.

Here is the mustard algae chart so you can appreciate the buffering effect CYA has on the chlorine.

Thank you. What are the risks of going over the limit, other than the possibility of bleaching the liner, and wasting chlorine?

Visibility down is about 24-27 inches using a tape measure.

I am adding diluted DE to the skimmer; had to backwash.

Rubber items will deteriorate faster, that is in your system some plastics are also deteriorated faster, the fact that a liner bleaches would also tend to indicate premature wear. Those are some I have read about there may be more, what is your spider gasket made of? A little like Russian roulette, but there is also a question of what is the benefit, I believe some may say that if SLAM/shock level at a certain CYA level is exceeded, it does not kill more algae therefore does not hasten the SLAM. But it seems certain that below SLAM/shock level it prolongs the SLAM. Good Question

You could target a lower FC now that the CYA is at 30. To bad you didn't keep track of the number of gallons, might have set a record. You must be over 100 gallons by now. I also think that the rise in pressure from adding DE is good indication that the filter is working properly. Before that I'd have bet a paycheck something was wrong.

Good morning, Richard.

I know this process must be feeling painfully slow, but am happy to see a bit of clearing/depth which should mean your filter is starting to catch up.

Since you're still losing quite a bit of FC overnight, the SLAM is still the focus to stay ahead of algae reproduction. That is essential in order to help the filter catch up. Based on the rate of clearing, it sounds like you're getting about 6" of clarity a day. So maybe in a few days you'll be able to see in the shallow end/slope just how much silt might be on at least the shallow end floor and we can work up a plan for that.

I'm only avail for quick check ins this week but for the future, I'd like to know a bit more about your well water to help support you in final phases of this recovery.

If you have a chance, can you look up your records from when you bought the house? The well evaluation should include test results or comments addressing your iron levels if they're high.

This does not affect the slam per se, because you cannot treat for metals while slamming - first you have to pass the slam criteria. But it might play into post-slam cleanup.

Sending you more POP mojo ;) Keep at it and cheers to clear!

Test results at 830 AM July 10th:

FC 14
CC 1.5

Added per pool math, first backwashed, then added about 1/3 cup of diluted DE, changed hairnets which show a large amount of fresh leaves, pine needles, and some bits/discoloration of brown matter (not as much as before). It rained during the night.

July 10th photos ; can you notice a difference in water color in the last two pictures?

The last picture is the deep end; the second to last is the shallow end? Water color difference? Also, the third step appears to be slightly more visible? Yes?
