Clarifiers at times can help speed up clearing the water......but only if the chemistry and filtering are perfect. Otherwise they're simply a Band-Aid and can cause multiple different problem. Your chemistry is not perfect at this point so I would stick with chlorine only while backwashing your filter when needed.



Have you tested your FC lately? What was it??? How are you doing on reagents???

Thats the odd thing, I haven't needed to backwash this entire time.

My FC was 13.5 around noon. No clue what it is now. When you ask how I'm doing on my reagents, I'm not sure what that means!

How are you doing on the testing supplies? Are you running out?? If so you'll need to order more so you don't stop during your SLAM.

Let's continue to watch your filter for another day or so. If we don't see improvement we'll take a step back. Sand filters are the slowest to filter out "stuff" so it's really not shocking it's taking some time. It took days to get there......days to clear up.

There's clearly a good bit of progress made! Keep it up!!

I'd like you to also take a quick look at this article, Deep Cleaning a Sand Filter. With you just moving into the house you don't have the knowledge of just what all's hidden inside of that filter. A good "deep cleaning" of your filter is very likely long overdue. Read over the article and ask any questions you may have.

Also continue to maintain your FC level above 12ppm.
