A Houston Pool Build Inside the Loop

Thanks Marla. Somewhere I saw a post with a picture of Snow Joe Melt. $30 for 50#s. I can't remember what was said about it or if anyone has used it. I've searched all over TFP for the post with no luck. I was hoping to get feedback from you and umm. I'm not ready to use untried chemicals in my pool. I don't know enough about chemistry. Lol!

Marla you have such a good handle on your pool and what is going on! I love it!

The CYA test-back to sun, tube held at your tummy, pour your mix to the first line, GLANCE in, IF you see the dot pour to next line, GLANCE in, repeat at each line until you don't see the dot when you GLANCE in.

My thinking is we will tell you to round up to the next number so might as well save time and effort and just pour to each line. I am doing this a liking it much better than adding a little bit at a time.

Oh and do NOT stare at the dot. You WILL see it LOL

Kim, I love the "fill to the line" method for the CYA test. I can't wait to try it! Thank you!

Marla, I'm so glad you asked to clear up the practice of sun/bright light or shade on the CYA tube! Oh dear, I thought the bright light was supposed to be ON the tube. My poor pool.....

Kim, I remember you saying about not always looking at the dot and just glancing at it, like if your looking at someone at a bar trying not to be noticed! I was unclear about the tube being in shade or sun. Now when there is no sun, Ive used the light over my stove as a substitute. Is this okay?

I haven't tested today. It's raining. Go figure. As soon as it stops, I am going to test the pH, but I think I only have enough reagent for one more CYA test. I didn't realize I could just dump what was in the tube back into the CYA bottle and retest. I was starting over. Now I know. Ordered reagent yesterday, so it should be here this next week.

Suz, I am also going to try the fill to the line method as soon as I get more reagent. Sounds like a great idea!

Since it stopped raining, I went and checked on my pool and its crystal clear again! Woo-hoo!! Going to go put the robot in again to sweep up the dirt. If we can get a rain free weekend, we will be able to get some landscaping in.

pH is good. Between the 7.5 and 7.8 mark. More light than dark so say 7.6.

Well, I bought the 50 lb bag of deicer, calcium chloride, that Umm and Bmore bought from Amazon last week. Even used the link Umm gave me. The box came yesterday and I was able to get it into the house. DH and I were going to move it out by the pool so I could broadcast what I needed tomorrow. After I opened the box, I realized Amazon sent me fertilizer! I went back to make sure I didn't order the wrong thing and, nope, I ordered the deicer. So now I have to sent it all back, get it replaced, and figure out out where the best place to get some CH increaser in the meantime. ::sigh::

Oh no! That stinks! When you call Amazon, I'd make them next day air it for free. They often will when they make mistakes like that.

Thanks TM! They are going to deliver it tomorrow because I told them I had planned on using it today because it was my day off, which is true. They are also going to arrange pick up of the fertilizer on Monday, so I'll just leave the box on the porch.

Doesn't look like deicer to me....

Suz, it's only because I saw right under the sticker that it said it contains 4% iron! Now, I've been on this forum long enough to know that you don't put metals in a pool, so that got me looking at the bag closer. That was when I realized it was fertilizer. Maybe the people at Amazon wondered why someone in Houston in the middle of summer would want deicer...?

Of course, had I remembered what the bag looked like on Amazon, I would have realized right off it was the wrong item!

Wow, yeh. That's processed municipal biosolids from Milwaukee (sewage sludge made safe for use as a fertilizer). Great development to help Lake Michigan, but holy smokes, don't send it to people for their swimming pool!!! GREAT catch!!! I hope that drone delivery concept has limitations, haha
