A Houston Pool Build Inside the Loop

TM, well not so good with me. I waited all day on Saturday for my "guaranteed delivery" only to find out on Sunday that it hadn't left the fulfillment center yet and now won't be here til Tuesday. I'm not going to be in any hurry to return the fertilizer. Maybe it'll have trouble leaving the "fulfillment center" too!

Oh no! That stinks. ☹️ I'd be frustrated too. I'm one of those that tracks down my UPS driver. Lol. I have no patience.

Marla, I'm sorry! Somehow I completely missed your lovely umbrellas and chairs!! Those teal Adirondack chairs look great with the umbrellas! Love those colors!!
Howvare you liking the antigravity loungers? I thought they were SUPER comfortable!! I still may end up getting a couple.

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time with Amazon! They need to be careful as they have some competitors popping up.

Denise, I finally got the correct item on Tuesday and was able to get some calcium chloride into the pool on Wednesday.
This is the first mistake I've had with them, but I don't order from them too often.

The "teal" adirondack chairs are actually really old and faded green chairs! We do need to replace them, but not too high a priority just now.

We are planning on doing more landscaping this weekend- drift roses under the window between the house and the pool deck and planting a Texas Republic orange tree, which we've been waiting for. I have a couple other citrus to plant but the nursery said to wait til the fruit is ripe or to pick it off now unripe. That way it'll concentrate on roots instead of fruit. I'll wait til the fruit is ripe, probably in the fall.

Suz, my hubby was the one who first saw them planted in one of the medians around town and loved them! They look like knock outs only smaller, which will be perfect under windows. Unfortunately my knockouts died last year before PB and they were the ones my dad planted. These will be a replacement for those, only a whole lot more!

I have a couple of questions.

My FC is still high (15) from 2 weeks ago when the pool service put in a tab. My SWCG is running at 30% and the salt is 2800 ppm. Should I add more salt? What ppm do y'all keeps yours at? Or should I just turn it off until the FC drops? All of my other numbers are good.

FC 14.5
CC 0
CH 400
TA 80
CYA 70
pH 8.2. (Will add MA to lower this)

I know my target FC should be 5 with a CYA of 70.

Also, after I add MA, when is it safe to swim?

Hmmm... with so many people following your build, it surprises me you haven't got your answers by now!

Your chlorinator manual will tell you it's preferred salt level. Yours is probably somewhere around 3000 to 3500, but mine is 4000. If you post the model, I can look it u for you.

Yep, you can turn off the SWG to let FC drop back. I would turn it back on when I got back down to around 8 PPM FC.

You can swim pretty much right away after the MA addition. You could allow 15 minutes to be on the safe side. But yeh, definitely keep your pH under 8.0

The Jandy Aquapure SWG spec is 3000 to 3500 PPM Salt, so you can use pool math to determine how much pool salt to add. One bag (40 lbs) will put you in the right range.

You can turn the SWG off until the FC drops. You can add the salt anytime between now and when you turn it back on. It won't take more than a couple of days for your FC to drop if it's sunny. Good swimming!!! Can't wait for summer to come back down here.

THANKS Jet!

SWG and such are my weak areas. I am still learning. My winter goal is to really try to learn more. One thing I have read is that most people let the SWG tell them if it is happy with the amount of salt. They just keep it somewhere in the range the manual says.

Salt in pool-I know of several people that add salt to their pool without having a SWG as they like how it feels. So there is nothing to stop you from adding the salt whenever you want. One person makes a point of adding it when the kids are in the water because they like to play with "diamond hunting" LOL

Water temp is 90. Kinda like bath water, which I don't mind but DH thinks is too warm. And our pool isn't even in the sun all day.

Thanks for all the help! Hopefully the FC will drop quickly. At least with all the landscaping we did this past weekend any organics that got into the pool were taken care of! I also ran the robot afterwards, just to be safe.

Last pool service (I think) will come tomorrow so they'll probably mess it up.

Haha, yep, the old thermostat debate!! Anything over 84 doesn't feel refreshing to me, but to each their own. If you run warmer than before, remember to turn up the SWG :)

My prediction: They'll want to add alkalinity up which you will later reduce back to where you have it now, or even below. They'll likely also say your chlorine is too high, which it may still be a wee bit. You can say someone peed so you poured some pool chlorine in to be on the safe side. Hopefully that's all they do. Whenever possible, grab what they have in their hands and say you gotta run and will put it in later, and then we can decide here whether it's a good idea or not. Do you have a warranty with language about water testing? We can deal with that fine as well.

Unfortunately, I am at work when the pool service comes so I don't know what they are doing at that moment. I do get an email later stating what they've done. The 2 month service was part of the contract. Since I have a PebbleSheen surface, I would assume (I know, I know!) that for any issues a testing log of some kind would be required. I have been keeping a log of my testing and I have the pool service emails.

What I can't understand is why last week the PS test (Taylor 2600-I asked!) said the FC was 4, when I tested the day before it was 17. And I tested twice with the TF-100 and once with some test strips just to make sure I hadn't made a mistake. It will be interesting to see what it reads tomorrow.

Good stuff, I'm glad to hear they let you know what they've done.

It sure is amazing what you get from a pool store. Your TF100 is correct as long as you're following the directions. There's a lot of funny stories here about pool store testing. I tried five pool stores with the same water and it was comical. In your case, it's likely that they just tested quickly and didn't care about the FC because they won't be selling you much chlorine, because you have the SWG. I believe their main two objectives are to find or invent "problems" that they have a "solution" for, and/or to raise your CYA so high that your pool will turn green, and you'll be back for even more "solutions".

My guess is they did not even test! FC of 4 is a good safe number and I bet every pool they "tested" was at 4 that day!

We had one last year where he had them on video AND he was inside the house watching.........they showed up, stood by the pool, played with their phone then turned to leave and he was standing right there! FIRED! LOL
