Underwater light mounting screw

Our pool is roughly two years old, and when I opened it in the spring, the underwater light fell out of the (plastic) wet niche. The brass / bronze mounting screw had corroded away. The instructions that came with the light state that the hardware must be replaced with the same type and size. I have no problem putting a brass screw back in the spot, but I'm wondering if the corrosion is a sign of something bad happening with the pool bonding system or some other issue. Or is two years about the lifespan of this screw in a SWG pool?

POOL LIGHTS NOT TURNING ON

Hello everyone,

I recently noticed that my pool lights are not turning on. I have a Pentair Automation system and PAL Evenglow lights linked via a PAL PCR-4 box. I opened the PCR-4 box and realized no power was getting to it (the wifi lights were turned off so I assumed no power was flowing to it from the automation box). When I looked at the automation box, I flipped the breakers and nothing changed. Next, I tested the GFCI on the automation box, which the PCR-4 connects to. After pressing the "Test" button, I cannot get it to reset now. I don't know if this was the original issue, or if it was something else.

I need help with the following:

1. Assist me with getting the GFCI to reset
2. Assist me with identifying and fixing the issue for what the lights stopped working.

Thanks, everyone.

Black Algae? Need help with these pool stains

Not sure if i is posting in the right section,I have some stains in my pool and spa, the pool/spa looks like it has dirt settled at the bottom but either vacuuming or brushing doesn't take it off. I tried a black algae treatment, followed the instructions but the stains still persist. There is also some blue stains around the return jets in the pool. Some white calcium looking stuff coming out of the pool walls and spa

Actuator Installation Options for Water Feature

I am finally getting around to installing the actuator valve I bought a couple of months ago. It is a 180-degree model (CVA-24 Compool which I think is Pentair? Doesn’t really matter, I guess).

I want to “automate” my fountain so when we want it on, I can make that happen. Currently, I have the return flowing into a 2” tee fitting where one side (2”) goes to the return jets with a two-way valve and the other side (1 ½”) is towards the fountain with a ball valve. Ideally, I’d like to have the option to have an option to select either return, fountain, or both, but I can’t seem to find an actuator that provides 3 stop positions, and I’m not sure if I need one. (Picture attached if it helps.)

Currently, (sometimes) I leave the ball valve open along with the return jet valve and when I want the fountain, I simply turn the two-way valve for the returns off (or close it partially) which allows me to leave the pump at 1200RPM with great flow at the fountain. So, here are my options, I THINK.

1) Leave the plumbing as is and install the actuator on the current two-way valve to the return jets leaving the ball valve open and simply closing the actuator relay when I want the fountain. The drawback I see here is that when my pump spins up for 75 minutes every morning to skim the top a little more than the 1200RPM the fountain will run too. This isn’t a problem other than it will cause additional aeration when I’m already fighting PH with the new plaster I get that will hopefully slow down overtime.

2) Replace the ball-valve on the fountain return with a two-way and place the actuator on it. If I am seeing this correctly, that will require me to increase the pump speed because with water still flowing to returns there wouldn’t be enough pressure.

3) Buy another actuator and have them both change when I want the fountain on enabling me to leave my pump at the same RPM. I am not sure this is achievable with my automation, and I also see issues if one of those actuators or actions fail while in the closed position with pressure buildup.
I’m not necessarily opposed to changing the RPMs if there is a better solution. Just looking to find all my options to make the best decision. I also don’t HAVE to skim every morning, but it seems to help keep the pool nice and pretty.

Thoughts for the group?

No water coming through the pool jets

Hi there,

Phoenix, roughly 12K gallon, pebbletec, Pentair side suction vacuum, DE filter, variable speed pump, filter gauge says ~20 psi (don't know if all this is relevant, but covering all bases!)
A huge storm rolled through the other night and we woke up to a mess. Got everything cleaned up, but it still seemed like it wasn't running properly. We cleaned the filter last night and thought everything was good. Woke up this morning and there is no water coming out of the jets. There is water in the pump, but it doesn't look like it normally does. I see bubbles when I look in it. We have no idea what to do. I've called all almost every pool service that says they're open on Saturdays, but no luck (so far.) Is there anything we can do? I've turned the pump off because I'm afraid of burning out the pump.

Any input you have would be appreciated! Thank you!

Base for ABOVEGROUND POOL -- what to put under pool sand?

Hello All! I am trying to figure out the best product to put under my Intex 16' diameter pool and getting different information. Sand, gravel, foam boards, Gorilla pads, etc. I live in Tampa and my ground is a mix of sand and dirt. I was told to use FOAMULAR 150 1 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. R-5 Scored Square Edge Rigid Foam Board Insulation Sheathing (Extruded) but the women who suggested it just found weeds grow through the foam and one punctured her liner. She's had her pool up for one month! She said she should have put a thick tarp under the foam first. I've been told foam boards slip and sand shifts. Is anyone an expert on what I should use so I don't need to deal with headaches later? This is my first above the ground pool and don't want to deal with issues in the future and will pay more money up front to protect pool! Thank you in advance!

Clorox platinum meltdown cartridge filters

Anybody try these? They come in sizes for all different cartridge filter pumps including intex. Filtration down to 3-5 micron. Was thinking of relaxing my intex filters with these

New Pebblesheen application Friday morning--then 5" of rain Friday evening. Should I be worried?

First post here. New build in St. Petersburg, Florida. Yesterday the crew did the Pebblesheen application from about 9a to Noon. At 5p, an initial deluge of about 1" of rain came down, and then from 6:30-7:30 or so we got an additional 4" and now have a lot of rain accumulated in the pool and spa. See pics. PB is coming Monday to acid wash and then we will begin the fill. Should we be worried about this rain and accumulation doing permanent damage to the Pebble surface?IMG_1627.jpegIMG_1628.jpeg

What is your robot schedule?

I know that this likely varies by pool shape, size, time of year and geographic location. I have a Dolphin Active 60 and run the robot 3 times a week on FLOOR only and this keeps the floor clean.

I'm wondering how often I should run it in "Waterline" mode to ensure that the walls are getting brushed routinely enough.

These Dolphins have the ability to schedule to clean Floor only, waterline only or a combination of both so I was wondering what kind of schedules other Dolphin owners were running.

I still manually brush the few areas that the Dolphin can't access but I'm wondering if anybody still manually brushes areas that the robots DOES clean.

Having trouble with green water

This is the first time I'm dealing with a pool, so please bear with me. Everything has been going good except when I had to shock the pool 2 times because of algae. It's a 4000 gal pool, and according to what I read, it would need about 6-7 oz. for regular maintenance, but I could double or triple it if it's for algae, so I put in 1lb, and it worked beautifully within a couple to a few hours. I just had to deal with too much chlorine. Even after a few days, it was still 10+ so I just drained some water out and added fresh water. That worked.

Now, yesterday I realized the water was looking a little green but wasn't as bad as the other 2 times, so I only added around 6 oz of shock. This morning it was a little worse. Couldn't figure out why until I found out that my son never changed the filter last week like he was supposed to. I changed it but wasn't sure if I was supposed to add some more shock, so I waited a couple of hours. Nothing changed, so I added 6 oz more. A few hours go by and nothing. I even checked the chlorine level, and it was at 5, so I added another 6 oz. of shock. It's now several hours later, and it doesn't look like there's a difference. If by the morning there's no change, should I just add a pound of shock, or will that be way too much? I was trying so hard to get the pool ready again for the HOT day coming tomorrow.

What I'm curious about is if there's a difference with the way the shock affects the algae if you put in the correct amount all at once versus if you put it in half at one time, and then more later on?

Taking down/disassembling our Wilbar agp and storing for possible future use.

Hello everyone I’m looking for any advice for storing the pieces for our 52” agp.
It has been a very sad month for me and my family. My 16mo old grandson passed away last month due to getting into the pool. So we are taking it down because it is too painful for us to look at after such a traumatic experience. I’m not sure if it will ever go back up but if we can ever get through the initial trauma and begin to remember how much love and joy the pool brought to our family including my grandsons then I will be able to Put it up then.
Are there any tips you can offer on how take Down the walls and get it rolled up and store it so it doesn’t get damaged or rusty? Is there something we should clean it with or maybe even paint on it to protect it against rust? the top rails are also a concern because after taking them off I found a decent amount of rust underneath and I know that will naturally spread. How should I treat and protect them? I’m assuming I just need to dump the sand out and clean the filter for storage. I’m not sure if there’s anything I need to do the pump either. I know I have looked at the books that came with the equipment but I don’t think Im retain what I am reading after searching.
so I thought of how wonderful you all have always been with helping me with my water issues and even though I have been nervous about asking I am just so overwhelmed with grief and I don’t feel like I can keep trying to google and read anymore. I just want it done!
As of right now the pool is drained, the top is off the bottom rail covers are off and the metal is unscrewed on some rails. So I have to get the rest done tomorrow I hope! Then I’ll have to spend a few days trying to preserve the rest of it.
I don’t want know how to say this but please be kind and don’t pass judgment this is so hard to deal with and never imagined we would ever have this happen to us. It’s extremely difficult to go on daily without feeling like I don’t know how this happened but it has happened and now we’re just trying to figure out how you do life without my baby boy! We all live together right now so even though he is my daughters son, I have spent everyday with my little Buddy and he was often mistaken for my little one because he looked like me and my little boy, he is the light of my life. Prayers are definitely needed . My son is only 9 and he can’t un-see or hear the screaming from that day so I am going to ask for some special prayers for Everett. The 2 of them were more like brothers and he was Everett’s little shadow he’s so devastated and lost without him.
Any tips on disassembling the pool is greatly appreciated!

Just saying G'day.

Hi all. New member signing in and doing the routine "introduce yourself" thing.

I'm Dave, and we've recently bought a house that contains a swimming pool. Hence my interest in your place here. I live in Western Australia (near the capital Perth) - but I'm sure pool water, algae, salt and chlorine work here pretty much the same as they do elsewhere in the world :)

Somewhere over 40 years ago, in my teens (yeah - I'm old), I looked after my parents pool, but things then were not as well understood as they are now. Since then I've had no other experience with pools until about 12 months ago when we shifted here - and my ... education commenced!

I inherited a older pool here. Our best guess is maybe 15 to 20 years old and it's had several owners each putting their touches on things (for the pool, it's equipment as well as elsewhere around the house). We've put in a salt water chlorine generator, replaced the aging single speed pump with a variable speed unit and I am coming to terms with the basics of keeping the water looking decent ( ~ish *grin*). Mostly, I've managed to keep the pool swim able thro last summer - perhaps with the aid of some luck - but there is clearly still much to learn.

A bit of a look around this site was certainly educational. I downloaded the Pool Math app, only to find it was suggesting I need a login to this place ... so I thought I'd complete that deal and say hello. So - hello all ! :)

Automatic covers and high FC

I was searching on this website if there are any problems with an automatic vinyl cover and having high FC. This is our first year with our pool and auto cover, reading several articles online, I found there "could" be some damage to the vinyl cover with high FC. Although I couldn't actually find what "HIGH FC" meant, I believe high FC might be over 10 or near Slam FC. For those with an auto cover for several years, I wondered if you noticed anything in your vinyl. Thanks,

leak identification and solution

We suspected a leak from having to add water more often, but now I'm fairly certain of it. The June->July bill went from 10 CCF last year to 20 CCF this year. Our often suspected spot is the skimmer, so I turned off the pump and dropped some egg-coloring solution into it (these are the tablets that get dissolved in water/vinegar to paint Easter eggs), but I saw it go nowhere except to just spread out. I will try with a dropped later and drop the paint closer to the corners of the skimmer intake.

What sort of other troubleshooting can I do? Only other thing I can mention is regarding pump priming. Pump is on a timer and shuts off and turns on multiple times a day. I have not come across the pump this year and found it not primed. The pump always seems to be flooded.

Liner fold at return fitting

I just had a new Doughboy pool installed. The liner is folded at the top of the return. The fold is about 3 inches long and extends out about 1 inch from the wall. The installer refuses to fix it because he claims he would have to replace the liner. He also claims it won’t cause any problems. My question is when the pool is winterized will damage occur to the liner from ice?

No Flow error Jandy Aquapure EI SWG

I've read some of the older inactive threads that seemed to be similar issue. Tried those suggestions to no avail.
I have a Jandy (Zodiac) Aquapure ei SWG and I'm getting the No flow error, which causes it to not generate chlorine.
I have plenty of flow at the return jets.
I have replaced the Flow sensor - It didn't come with a small PCB, as I've seen others mention...
The Flow sensor did not fix the issue.
I have also cleaned my salt cell with the muratic acid mixture.
I have tried the hard reset via the hidden button to no avail.
My chlorine level is in the high 4000's and it's in the upper 80-90 degree temp.

I'm now adding chlorine manually to control my algae issue.
I'm finding it very hard to get any pool repair company to return my calls, even the company that installed this SWG.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

New V-Green 165 Pump not stopping when button pressed.

Installed this last month (my first pump replacement as a pool owner. Worked fine for what i guess was 1-2 weeks. For those unfamiliar, you need to stop the motor with the 'stop' button to program or adjust the pump schedule. This i was able to do early on. Now the stop button does nothing. I press it, i hold it. Nothing. Anyone experience this?

I did find this on the web (from a different suppliers website).

Wanted to ask around before i reach out to my supplier.

Thanks

A Leak Question

I need a new liner, but that's a project for next year.

I'm trying to find a serious leak. 33,000 gal 40x20 in-ground pool, vinyl liner. The leak is 70-100 gallons per hour, 2 inches per day, with the pump on or off, and the pump valves open or closed. The pool will drain itself below the vacuum suction and returns, and to the middle of the lights at a fairly constant rate over several days. It may have kept going down, but I stopped that test because I didn't want to leave less than a foot of water in the shallow end. I've been dye-testing every fixture and potential leak spot I can find. Already removed the main drain cover and both light inserts. No luck with dye anywhere yet. it's an old pool - no recirc line from the main drain to a skimmer or pump.

What I did find is a split in the liner on the slope between the shallow and deep end. A foot long and up to a quarter-inch wide. Found it because my vacuum brush really pulled hard when I touched it. I was ecstatic as I thought I had found the leak and could just tape it up until next year. However.... try as I might from less than an inch away, dye will not flow into it.

A question for anyone who has seen a tear in a liner on the pool floor... Does the weight of the water on the surrounding vinyl create a seal so that water does not flow through the tear? Thanks in advance.
