    Couple of AA treatment questions

Thanks for the input! Just to be safe I went ahead and ordered the AA from Guardian, one of the suppliers recommended on here. Price looks to be pretty close to the Amazon stuff I linked anyway. I decided I'd better keep the wheels in motion as I usually close the pool in mid-October and I...

    Couple of AA treatment questions

Over the past couple of seasons, I've noticed a gradual discoloration on our white fiberglass steps (pool is about 14 years old). It is very mild yellow/tan - definitely nowhere near as bad as some of the pics others have posted on here. Last season I tested it with vitamin C and it whitened...

    AutoPilot Tri Sensor Replacement

Thanks Allen! I didn't come up with any good suggestions for removal, so I ended up ordering a combo kit of the sensor and the section of plumbing that it plugs into. It wasn't really that much more expensive than just the sensor alone, and will hopefully let me get things back up and running...

    Opinions, regrets?

Absolutely love the SWG - I wouldn't go back. One thing I've discovered, though, is that the mild salt exposure has gradually eaten away the ladder & handrail sockets in our concrete deck. So I'm eventually going to have to replace them somehow. But that's it. I spend very little time on...

    AutoPilot Tri Sensor Replacement

So we have an older AutoPilot DIG-220 that has started with the "Purifier Off Check Flow!" warning. There is plenty of flow, so I am figuring the tri sensor has gone on permanent vacation. I think I replaced it once before due to salt reading problems. Anyway, before I ordered a new sensor, I...

    In-ground fiberglass steps turning yellowish

Just reporting back here... Finally got some vitamin C, crushed it in a fine bag I use for adding stabilizer, and put it on the step. Instant color change - pure white again. What's more, I found all I needed to do was swipe the bag along the steps & risers and it would pretty much...

    Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

That's great - for me I need to detangle after every two runs, and it usually takes at least two to get the pool somewhat clean. If I don't detangle, it won't reach the far end, which it already does a bad job getting anyway. Not the end of the world but still annoying.

    Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

I will just weigh in with my swivel opinion - great idea, lousy in practice. My Dolphin Active 20's cable gets all twisted up after just one run session. Swivel does nothing. I think it is just too stiff. It is really disappointing as that was a key feature I was looking for when replacing...

    In-ground fiberglass steps turning yellowish

I'll get some and try that. If the test shows a difference, what's the next step? (pun sorta intended)

    In-ground fiberglass steps turning yellowish

We have an in-ground vinyl liner pool with white molded steps that I believe are fiberglass. The pool is now 13 years old and I've been noticing that the steps are yellowish below the waterline. They are still white above the waterline. The pool was regular chlorine for the first two or three...

    Which solar water heater?

11 years ago I installed two Fafco Solar Bear panels on the ground near our pool. Panels are 4' x 20' and I used a Goldline controller to route water to them when appropriate. Overall the setup has worked well. One or two years I opened the pool to find a leak or two in the panels, but you...

Autopilot Pool Pilot wonky salt readings

Quick update: Bought a new tri sensor. Solved the issue, and am now able to calibrate the salt reading to match my test kit results.

Thanks! I'll definitely review all of the above.

Autopilot Pool Pilot wonky salt readings

Thanks, but unfortunately I already did the backwash and am mostly through the topping up. Didn't know those would be important. Could you tell me a bit more?

Autopilot Pool Pilot wonky salt readings

Just a quick update... I pulled the Tri-Sensor. The instructions tell you to look for deposits on the salt sensor blades but they looked fine to my eye - just a uniform dark color. Reinstalled and let the pump run a while. Pool Pilot showed 3000 ppm, Taylor indicated 5200 (we've had some...

    Should I add a SWG??

I think you've probably already decided to go SWG, but let me just add my thumbs up. 9 years with ours and only this season have I begun to possibly have a sensor issue. It was hands down the best investment I made in our pool (robot cleaner is #2). Once it is up and running in the spring I...

Autopilot Pool Pilot wonky salt readings

Our Pool Pilot has been very reliable for 9 years. I relied on the salt sensor readings and it always seemed to be about the same level of saltiness and roughly the same amount of salt needed each season. This year it started calling for more salt - at first I didn't much about it, but then...

    LED strip lights?

Bumping this because I have the same question as @PoolGate above... I have a vinyl liner in ground and would love to have under coping instead of the obnoxious niche light.

    Ducks!!!

Ducks have been an issue for me this spring too. Solar cover did not discourage them much - just got filthy with poo. Also, they seem to drop eggs if they don't have a formal nest in time. So have cleaned up multiple eggs from the cover. Finally gave up on that and washed it down & rolled it...

    Problems with Ducks

Sprinkler is not a bad idea... I may do that if this goes on much longer. For now I put our solar cover on - it helps, though the ducks will still land on it, just not as much. I don't particularly like using it, as it's a hassle and I feel it seems to encourage algae growth.

    Problems with Ducks

The duck population from a nearby farm pond has spun off two or three that have been trying to take up residence around our yard and pool the past couple of weeks. Now becoming a POO-l. Man, they're crappy birds. Unfortunately I work full time so I can't be here to drive them off constantly...

Pentair VS - external control hookup

Sorry - I forgot to include the model, but you are correct it is a SuperFlo VS (not Intelliflo). Thanks for confirming my understanding. I'll do some looking for appropriate relays and a junction box or housing to put them in. If anyone has a slick setup for this, I'm all ears...well, eyes I...

    Bad pump corrosion

Just replaced my Hayward Super Pump because of a similar issue. Also SWG - salt & bearings don't play well. In my case, the pump seal was probably weeping for a while but just enough to kill the bearings without any visible signs. I noticed the pump getting louder before I finally saw any...

Pentair VS - external control hookup

So I replaced our failing Hayward pump with a new Pentair VS. Really like having the variable speeds and, of course, the rebate from our power company... I am trying to figure out how to turn the pump on when our Hayward Goldline GL-235 solar heat controller calls for flow, or when our Pool...

Equipment Pad Pictures.... Lets see them

@lshonda310 & @brunnesa - thank you both for the info. That's really interesting about the lack of heat buildup, and gives me some assurance about how much ventilation is actually needed. I'm still trying to figure out what structure will work best for us...

    Pump selection

Thanks for the suggestion! In my situation, the Pool Pilot SWG runs a schedule (and therefore controls the pump), with the solar heat as an override (if solar thinks it can make heat, it turns on the pump). With a VS pump like that Pentair, I'm assuming I would pick a speed setting (probably...

    Pump selection

Seems like this is a popular topic! Our current pump is original to the pool, installed in 2009. Hayward Super Pump, single speed, 1 HP (1.1 SF), 240 volt. It has a 2" intake but it appears that the actual line from the pool is about 1.5". Same size return. We are running a Pool Pilot SWG...
