Switched from sand to Zoe clear pool worst ever in 10 years! Can some one help? I was not given instructions so I did not add gravel at first now I have gravel I did not back wash 3 times so pool is very cloudy should I just dump and go back to sand? Tried to flock but pool was so cloudy not sure if I vacuumed to waste enough when I put samples in 5 gallon buckets I see telly swill at bottom after letting it sit for 8 to 12 hours

Twenty plus years ago, when that stuff first hit the market, I tried both of the brands available locally on installs. Ended up dumping it (it works well in a garden) on all three and going back to plain filter sand. As i had to eat the cost, it wasn't something I was happy doing, but have to keep customers happy.
Have tried the various Vitreo products (recycled glass). Went back to sand.
Adding gravel was common in what were called "rapid sand" filters due to their design. They had a flow rate of 5gpm/sq. ft.
New sand filters are considered "high rate" filters, 20gpm/sq. ft. While some do use gravel, most installers don't with no issues.

Can you please tell more about your pool specs and equipment by filling in your signature. Im 3 year in using zeo. Zeo does not behave like sand so its not a direct replacement. Zeo likes low and slow flow to work best, so you need a VS pump. Yes you needed to wash your zeo before running it in filter mode. No harm done, keep your pump at low speed 1100rpms if possible and let it filter. It will take a couple of days. The bags of Zeo usually have specs for flow rates to filter, backwash and rinse. If you know your zeo brand look it up.
Tried to flock
So did you use floc or not? If you did it will surly mess with the zeo, you can try to backwash.
Leave it in filter mode and have some patience for now. Keep your FC levels according to FC/CYA Levels
Do you have a test kit? If not get your own Test Kits Compared

I need help this product has made my pool a disaster. Lack of instruction so i think what happened i only back washed once and should have done it 3 times. althought i did backwash for at least 3 mor 4 minutes unless water glass ran crystal clear and rinsed for at least a minute. Does anyone know how i can get this DUST? out of my pool. very frustrated...zeo-clear filter media is a joke...

I'll weigh in as one of the few Zeo users with a few years as a member and guide.

First, the name says it all. Trouble Free Pool. We are trying to educate people to make it trouble free. Zeo is not trouble free. I know of two here that use it and love it on this site. I've seen dozens of threads with zeo of problems. Pool store put mine in as part of my Pool Stored experience. I got lucky. Did I get a batch that had large enough particles, or did the pool store backwash enough? I'll never know. If I knew then what I knoze now...I'd have gone sand. Zeo, like sand, lasts forever. Until something happens with the filter and it puts it in my pool, I'm leaving it. Don't fix what ain't broke. That being said, when it does happen, I'll put in sand.

When people try to find a magic bullet, or the best stuff you use, or magic potions, it is a fool's errand, and Trouble Free Pool get lots of customers.

I can make suggestions.
  1. Have you backwashed the 2-4 times for 5-8 minutes a piece, including a rinse cycle? Said another way, is it still blowing dust?
  2. What type of vacuum or robot do you have? Vacuum: I would try to slowly brush it to one area of the pool. This may take some time. You need to be really slow and try to get it to a smaller area. May take a bit to let it settle again. When you get it to a smaller are use your vacuum to slowly vacuum to waste. If you have a robot, put in the fine filters and let 'er rip. Not sure there is another way, but someone may be along with another idea.
  3. Could you fill out your signature? Will help with other ideas:
