Yet another Texas pool build!

Sorry for the delay in the photos. I only have a couple more. My foot was hurting from me watching so much so I just laid down. Then we went to get my daughter and it was almost dark so no good photos. Darn time change! I have one close up of the finish before acid wash. It is pretty dark so the glass doesn't really sparkle much but it is there.

Today is acid wash then fill. I won't be home but I will try to get my wife to get some shots. I really like the overall color.

How beautiful is that?! And that's before the acid wash!

Those beads are going to come to life! Your pool is the first one I know to have the Blue Surf with the beads added. I can't wait to see it with water!

Maybe it's better you won't be home today, or you might overdo that foot! Be careful while you're out today!

Do you feel a little in shock that this is really happening? Like a dream or something? I know I do....

I'm smiling ear to ear!

oh and a funny story. My 4 year old doesn't like the finish. He keeps saying "BUT I WANT DARK BLUE" haha. We keep explaining we don't want dark because it will make the water too hot in the summer. I never thought he would have an opinion.

It looks gorgeous!

Thanks I am super excited!

OMG! Those beads are fabulous! The color is looking great! It really is a wonderful sight when that gray gunite is gone! Then comes the water and the look changes again!!! Christmas is early this year!!!

Suz.

Honestly it is so strange to look out and not see the gray abyss. I am sure with water it will be even stranger.

I agree with Suz, et.al, -- that shot from your upper level just looks great -- well worth the wait! Shoot some close ups for us when you can hobble down...

Hopefully today we'll get some better shots. I was worn out yesterday and it got done about 3 and I didn't want to bug them because I think me on my crutches made them nervous because any time I would go out on the deck they would all stop and stare at me. I didn't want them to stop working because I knew that the plaster stage is very time sensitive to get it finished right.

Oh Adult word yes! It IS really happening or has happened.

Of all day for the internet to act up at work! I went to reload the page and got the error messg! Gurrr! Don't they know I HAD to know if ummmm got plastered??????? LOL

I LOVE that glass! Hubba, hubba!

Kim (who could cry in relief for you. It REALLY happened!)

Tell me about it I am still in shock I think that it happened. I'll be more in shock when the pool has water.

Party time!!!!!!! So glad they are there!!!

I am super excited. I was surprised when they actually showed up. My PB called like at 8 a.m. and my first reaction was "oh great why are they cancelling..." He just called to tell me not to get upset if it doesn't look nice because it will look better after acid wash.

How exciting!!! Love love love the glass beads :) it's going to be fabulous!

Thanks I really like them..

Wow, that's great news ummmmm.

I've been away from the forums for a few weeks and wondered how your pool was coming. Glad to see it get plastered, and today, too.

Thanks it has been coming at a snail's pace. I honestly think at this point a snail could have traveled to and from my PB's office a few times in the time it took them to build my pool.

Marla------------first you get plastered then acid the next day. Today is his acid day! Acid and water are on the same day.

The acid is to expose the pretty! I can't wait to see those pics!

Kim

Me too!

Oh duh! I knew that! I guess I was just so anxious to see them that I had a senior moment!

It is so cute that you are feeling like it is a dream. Honestly it is the weirdest feeling to know it is almost done. I feel like it took so long that in my mind it has been becoming like a never ending project. Part of the feeling is relief because there was always that scare that for some reason they wouldn't finish at all. The worst part is this last week there seems to be a lot of internal conflict happening at the company so it just seems more surreal.

I am really thrilled with the finish. There really aren't that many with the luminous anyway. I don't know if it would be worth it if I had to pay for it. That is my initial impression but that is before acid wash and water. Ask me again this summer when I have lots of time with it. Even though like you said about your finish I think once it actually happens you might think that there could be a better finish (think spools...) but in reality this is my pool and it is unique and I am more than happy with it. It is kind of like my 4th child at this point haha... I definitely know I won't mind looking out the window at it every day. I'll have to get my wife to keep the blinds open more now. She likes everything shut haha.

Marla, mine was acid wash and water same day maybe for DB they do that... So not a senior moment, hehe

I can't wait to see it with water! This is beautiful

That is interesting! I wonder why pebble takes 2 days? Maybe they want it to setup more to hold the pebbles in place?

Ummmm if that is BEFORE acid wash just think of what it is going to look like after! WOW!

Kim

I hope so. You can't really see all the beads in the photo. It is like the sample I posted before. You really need light hitting it AND you have to get the angle right to see it in the photo. The sample of the Aqua Blue with the beads was amazing in the show room but I swear they have those "jewelry" lights in the showroom. You know when you go buy diamonds and they always look so sparkly in the store and then when you get them home they still look nice but they aren't as insanely sparkly as in the store? I think the glass beads are like that. Most days you'll say that looks really nice but on some days when the light is just right it has that WOW factor. I still get that out of my wife's engagement ring. Most of the times it looks pretty but some random days in the car I am like Holy Cow that thing is sparkly. (her ring is pretty small too because we got married young. She was 18 and I was 24).

Ha! The little man knows his own mind!

That's awesome,
Suz.

He definitely does. I think once water is in it he won't care. I was just really surprised that he was so opinionated about it. Usually he is a go with the flow, what can I do right now to have fun, type of boy. He was practically having a fit over it yesterday. My wife and I were just laughing. He does get aggravated easily because he has to deal with older sisters.

Congrats, ummgood! We didn't have to wait near as long as you did but it sure was nice to finally convert the big gray trash bin to a nice blue pool.

I'm amazed at your level of patience. We're closing in on 3 months and can't seem to get wrapped up after getting a lot done the first 3 weeks. And our patience is wearing thin.

Kudos to you for holding it together and navigating a tough build!

Oh. And get well soon!

Another question now that I actually realize that I need to upkeep the chemicals. I plan on running to the store tonight. How much bleach/MA/etc... should I buy that would be needed for about 19k gallons? Oh and I realized that I didn't read the meter this morning (not that I could have gotten the lid open by myself anyway.)

I am so happy for you! Once ours was finished it was such a blur - kids everywhere jumping in again and again. And it was a breeze compared to your experience!

Such a sweet story about your son! Such a fun age! Our son was 5 when we found out we were expecting...and then a few weeks later found out it was going to be twins! He didn't quite know what to think - but his first comment was: "Ok...but Mom - we don't want no stinkin' girls!" Which is exactly what he got! Two identical little sisters that to this day (7 years later) drive him completely mad at times!

You will have the best summer EVER next year!!

Again - so happy to read this today. It finally happened! Now you get to change your signature! :)

Our pool is about the same volume as yours. Your PB should do the startup, but if they don't I would get a gallon of MA and a couple gallons of bleach.

The pool math calculator should help you figure out needs. What I did was test the water after it filled and enter those values in pool math and start there.

Now I use Pool Pal on Android for daily test results and use Jesse's Graphical Spreadsheet for logs.

Consider getting latex gloves and goggles for MA. I added about 16 fluid ounces of MA to drop pH from 7.8 to 7.5. It's not a linear scale so to drop from 7.5 to 7.2 will require more. Our PB measured pH at 8.2 and they put in a whole gallon which dropped it lower than 6.8. Ugh.

Hope that helped somewhat.

Thanks we are so excited! My middle daughter (age 6) has already announced that when it is done filling they can go swimming. I am sure my wife is rolling her eyes as it is pretty cold here. I guess we'll be having a polar bear plunge.

That is SO pretty!!!!!

I have a shopping list for you:

-test kit-see my siggy for the ones we use and love

-white, plastic plate to hold up behind the PH testing tube to help see the colors.

-toothbrush (yea really) to clean the small places

-plastic 2-cup measuring cup

Here is a link for you.............BUT your PB trumps this link as he holds the warranty card!

Pool School - Start-up New Plaster

I would get 2 jugs of bleach. Have you and your wife figured out where you will be getting the chlorine/bleach from?

I have some more for you but am out of time--------I will finish when I get home.

Kim

Ohhhhhhhhhhh! I'm so excited for you and your family! I just start giggling each time I open up your thread and see more pictures!! The top one in the latest set of three is gorgeous.... And filling with water!! Are the two below it before the acid wash?

I forgot to check my meter, too. I wish I had, but I've managed without. I'm still adjusting my gallons.

We have a SWG system, also. We also had the rainbow chlorinator which we could have lived without. For that first month before the switchover, we bought the Walmart bleach (the one that labels the percent of chlorine - 8 point something percent) We bought 10 gallons or jugs at a time - mostly because Nick didn't want to unload any more than that. Even with the pucks, my pool guzzled the bleach. BUT that was in our hottest and driest part of the summer in August. Some days I added 2 or even 3 jugs of bleach.

I would buy what you want to carry - maybe 5 to 10 - and see how it goes. As we got within a week of the switch to salt, I slowed down on the buying.

For the MA, I bought a case of six (about the same size of the bleach jugs). I think I have about three left. I'll check when I get home. I didn't need that much, but I know I will use it.

For comparison - in my signature, my gallon volume is listed as 24k, but I need to update that 22k - and that could be lowered again.

I never found it to be a problem if my gallons were a little off and I added a little too much bleach or MA. Those get used up in the water sooner rather than later. I'm still careful when adding CYA and calcium increaser (I didn't worry about adding those in the early stage). Those two stay more static - you want to avoid over doing those.

Beyond that, I'm too new to give you much help on water maintenance. Far better to let the experts guide you!

I hope this helps a little!

Oh, is your PB taking care of things? If he says he is, start your own testing right away no matter what he says. If I had left it to mine, I would have had a green pool! Checking on it once a week is not enough!!! I texted him my numbers right off the bat and got his permission to add what I needed. So before the first week was up, he let me take over (Wendy taught me this!). He still came once a week to check on things. He really bragged on me, too.

You won't have any trouble - you have TFP!!
Suz.
