Yet another Texas pool build!

Suz, of course! That's my old brain at work! I knew there was someone else besides Flounder (who we haven't heard from in a long time). Thanks for reminding me it is Appelbe.

That's why it's so great to team up... Many brains together make an outstanding brain!

A friend of mine - she and I fill in words for each other. Not because we're so in tune with each other. It's because when one can't word call, the other one does! Together we can have a coherent conversation!! Getting older is adapting, right?!

Someday, Umm, you'll understand!! Lol!

Suz.

wait I think it IS ummmmm who is a pilot!! I was going to go back through his tread until I saw it was 31 pages! LOL too lazy to do that!

Kim

I am not a pilot :) I have mentioned that I have a friend who is a pilot for AA but I am not a pilot. I am a software engineer and I work on car radios for a living so I end up going to a lot of where the car manufacturers are at.

Here is a slideshow of the pictures I took.
Berlin_London by Joshua Caskey | Photobucket

Most of the London photos are of Harrod's food court and the reindeer outside. I also took some photos by my hotel near Paddington Station. There is a canal with boats and a large industrial area. That is where the film was being shot. I also took some other random photos.

In Berlin I stayed in the Park Inn which used to be Hotel Stadt which was in east Berlin and there are probably valid rumors that dignitaries who stayed in this hotel were spied on during the GDR period. I also ate in the TV tower the first night I was there (I was only there 2 nights). The rest of the photos are around the Berlin Wall memorial.

Car radios! That would be neat to work on! Everyone has one and most love them! I know I have mine on all of the time! Even when I have the top down on my car I have the radio on loud enough to hear it and everyone around me! LOL

If you are in a walking boot, that's good news! I spent two months non-weight-bearing following major foot surgery and it was AWFUL!!!. And then I had another surgery where I was able to walk with a boot immediately. That was much better :)

Pretty wild that your girlfriend gave notice, evidently your build was as hard on him as it was on you! My fingers are crossed that your plaster goes in without issue. Can't wait to see the color!

I was non weight bearing on my last surgery for 6 weeks. I had the knee scooter. This surgery is the same as you I should be able to walk on it. I haven't been until my first checkup so I have been on crutches since Wednesday but hopefully today he'll give me the go to walk on it a bit. I definitely won't be pushing it. Plus this time since I know I'll be able to walk on it I am not as afraid to rest it on the floor etc. Last time I literally tried to never let it touch the floor.

I think basically what happened is we all knew they were hemorrhaging money on the projects where my designer was involved. Besides for him being wanted they fired him for this reason. Well basically I think finally the rich guys funding the company found out this past week just how really bad the situation is. The person funding all this wanted someone's head on a platter and I think he went off in the office and my girlfriend decided he couldn't work for that guy and put in his notice. The sad part is they are losing all the people who made the company even seem like it had a ray of hope. I am glad I am far enough along where my pool is mostly done when he leaves. I feel bad for the people who are just now getting steel or holes dug. I have seen one bad review come in lately on Yelp so I think it is only a matter of time before they get some more (no it isn't my review).

Anyway the weather has delayed my plaster. I am guessing Wednesday now hopefully.

I was concerned the Austin weather today would get in the way. The weather guys are really hyping it up in our area for tomorrow morning. I know to take the forecasts with a grain of salt, but I have to make a long drive tomorrow morning in areas known to flood. Ugh!!!

It would be interesting to know how much your pool alone has cost the company. I'm thinking it must be close to 2-3 times more than it should have been with many things being done 2, 3, or more times. I know you'll give a huge sigh of relief once the pebble is done. In fact, we all will!!!

Take it easy,
Suz.

I have no idea how much more it is costing to be honest. If I had to guess the subs are using all the money they collected from me. They probably aren't making anything to pay themselves or their employees at this point. The last number I heard is the labor on my pavers/walls was 20k. That isn't including the cost of the materials themselves. I am guessing the belgard pavers alone are about 5sq.ft. and I have close to 900 sqft of pavers. Then add the wall block on top of that. I am guessing close to 30k for the decking. Then you have the equipment, plumbing, electric, shell, steel, landscaping, pebble sheen, tile, stacked stone, etc... I am guessing they have spent most of the money.

Well here is the crazy part. I just paid the last draw because it is in my contract as being pre-pebble. I had to make an educated decision. Do I pay the final draw and potentially not get the railing or not pay until the railing and hold up the pebble until the railing is in. I decided not to hold up the pebble. I know I am risking not getting a railing but in my mind that is less risk than the pebble and startup. I'm planning on getting a date for the railing and then I'll be in their office if it doesn't get installed.

Plaster is scheduled for tomorrow. I will hopefully get some pics. He is still figuring out the hand rail info for me. He said the company approved it and they paid the deposit on it so they just need to get a date. We shall see...

Yay for plaster tomorrow!!! I hope you are healing well, recovery from surgery can be very difficult! I'm praying there are no more hiccups and that you get your rail installed!

Blessings!
Denise

It sounds to me that you did the only thing you could do.............You CAN have and enjoy a pool without a handrail BUT you cannot have or enjoy a pool without plaster! Between a rock and hard place in that one!

Plaster tomorrow! EVERYTHING crossed here! Are you able to go out and check they have what should be going in your pool? Will your wife be there also to back you up?

"Oh pool angels, PLEASE see to it that ummmm gets plastered tomorrow!" ACHOOOOOOOO

I plan on going in the front when they arrive and ask questions. I'll have to figure out how to get down to the pool. I got authorization to start walking a little yesterday. Yesterday was bad but I think part of it was because he took the original bandage off my foot and it wasn't too happy about it. This morning it was still rough but tonight walking slowly with my crutches to help was much better! (We went to dinner for my son's 4th bday). I have high hopes I can go through the gate in the front and navigate down the grass to the pool. No way could I manage the deck steps yet with crutches. I am hoping I'll have drastic improvement over the next week or so.

Most of my pictures tomorrow will be from the deck I am sure. I'll try to get my wife to take close up photos.

On a strange note the pool company is owned a group that owns three companies. One is my pool company which is a new residential pool company, the second is a commercial pool company that builds big stuff like Great Wolf Lodge etc..., and the third company is a pebble tec authorized plaster company. The plaster company is based out of Dallas and I guess they drive down here??? That is really strange to me... Anyway who knows what time they'll get here. I didn't realize that until just today that they are based on Dallas. I think I have seen their trucks in one or two Dallas builds on here so that makes sense.

Kim... Anyway this company has lots of money. I know the commercial leg right now has one project that is 3 million dollars. They are upset and having a knee jerk reaction to everything and of course they haven't figured out how to build a residential pool yet. Fortunately the railing and final inspection are in my contract so if they don't fulfill that then I'll take them to small claims court for the cost to install and whatever repairs are needed for final inspection. I know if I get a judgement (shouldn't be hard if they don't fulfill the contract) then I know they can pay up.

It is tomorrow!!!!!!!! Are they there yet??????? LOL

You have thought it out and it is all VERY sound reasoning to me.

Take MUCH care in moving around. I would ask to SEE the stones and shell before and as they are added to make sure they have them AND are using them.

Looking forward to hearing they pulled up to your house.

Kim

Good morning!!! I hope you are very busy right now outside with the plaster people! Eager to hear news of plaster underway...
Be careful moving about your yard and deck! You sure don't want any setbacks in your recovery.
Blessings!
