Definitely. We were trying to piece together what we could just by looking at the layout. Every pool guy we've had come out (we were getting estimates for our deck.... that's another thread all together) mentioned that it is against code to have a pool so close to the house. That and the mega gas heater we will never use (I'll post a pic tomorrow) has us thinking maybe it was a medical reason (?) I really have no clue. We have one original neighbor that knew the family in our previous house. Evidently it was a very nice woman whose family kinda took advantage of her it sounds like. She had two or three jobs and her older family members would have pool parties non-stop. My elderly neighbor even told me at one time there were sofas under one of the carports and they would sleep out there. I really don't know what to believe. If I ever find out more, you better believe I'll post! If anyone else has any thoughts or suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Lisa, your pool looks AWESOME!!!! I added 5 gallons of bleach a couple hours ago... I can't wait to see it tomorrow morning! I'll definitely post pics. Now off to do some bedtime SLAM reading haha

Thanks. It hasn't been hard to keep it that way. I'm a little bit helicopter pool mom because I'm still learning and I do NOT want a green pool again!

VERYYY TRUE! I was just looking at my bank statements, and it has been a slow trickle out... in the amounts of ~$600 OUCH! No wonder they have a picture of me on their wall. (kidding)

I too bought a foreclosed home/property. The back property was so bad we had NO idea there was a POND and brick grill back there. At the closing they were going over the survey "and here is the pond and grill" WHAT??????????? OH happy day! Otters come to swim in our pond all of the time! It is so neat. We have cleared around it and love it as do all of the critters. One day our neighbors horse came to swim in it! LOL Looked out to see what the dog was barking at----------There is a big, black horse happily playing in our pond! I knew which neighbor he belonged to so called them to let them know where he was. He still comes to play some days BUT they bring him down instead of him doing a walkabout LOL
EVERY room in our house needed work. We could and did all of it on our own. It took us 3 months to get is fixed up enough to move into. I painted every wall. Cleaned and recleaned EVERYthing! It was SO worth it! 6.5 acres fully fenced (not always with the gate closed LOL), brick house, pond, pool and pool house, barn (turned into a garage). Our own piece of heaven!

Welcome, Katie, to the swamp foreclosure club. I soooooo regret starting life on this board with a handle like SwampWoman, since THAT shoe no longer fits 
I think you're pretty much covered, but have a few quick tips:
First question, is your surface a vinyl liner, or is it gunnite/plaster or fiberglass?
If its a vinyl liner (don't know what an Anthony pool is...) please ignore any and all well-meant but misinformed suggestions to drain it and powerwash it, no matter how tricky it gets. Never drain a vinyl liner pool more than to a Foot in the Shallow end...and less if there are water table issues.
Second is once you can measure with your kit, and are simultaneously getting all possible debris out using leaf rake or leaf gulper, be sure to hit it hard and maintain -- by this I mean for the first few measured additions, test a half hour later to see right away if its holding at least 50% of the ppm you're putting in. If it isn't, you will just need to keep adding, test, adding test for a few hours til you break it -- and get it to hold an FC.
After that, once it will hold FC for a few hours (though maybe it is already doing that now...you'll know when you get your kit) the next most important thing is to not let it drop below the slam value in the Cya:chlorine chart. That may mean overshooting the target a bit when you dose.
The rest will depend on your CYA number...and same might be zero, or might be high. The steps will be different depending on your test results, and we can advise once you have those in hand.

Kimkats, your place sounds AMAAAZING! And what a surprise to have a pond and brick grill!! Every room in our property needed TONS of work. We hired out to get us started and now it's a slow move to get all the details taken care of. It's definitely a work in progress!

I didn't want to waste those precious hours of naptime putting together the rolling vacuum head, so I just skimmed the surface of the pool for an hour with a leaf rake net. Taking before and after pics is a goooood idea! I've just been taking step pics everyday to see how we're progressing. As for water shutoff valves, I'm not quite sure what you mean. I have pool water recirculating through the pool pipes, bypassing the filter right now. When I vacuum, the pool guy told me to vacuum to Waste. That way, the gunk i vacuum up will go directly through the backwash hose and not through my filter. This is my plan for naptime tomorrow, so let me know if something doesn't sound right or if there's a better way! I'm excited to vacuum, but am worried because I can't see the bottom yet, so I may just be blindly vacuuming and wasting a lot of water...
I dumped 5 more gallons of bleach tonight. I was thinking of easing back to 1 gallon a night until I get my kit, so I don't over-do it. Is that a good idea?
I can't wait to see how it looks in the morning! And after vacuuming!

Your plan is a good one. You can be adding water as your vacuum to waste. That is a very good idea. Just know that you will make your water look worse due to stirring up the yuck. That is NO big deal! It is a good thing as it is getting the stuff up where the bleach can get to it.
What I was talking about is really for the future when we teach you how to MAINTAIN your clear pool! There should be some kind of valve on your pipes that allow you to shut off the flow of water coming/going from your pool. These will allow you work on your equipment without water pouring out everywhere.
LOL wasting valuable nap time CUTE. How many and how old? I also saw a doggy in one of the pics. You have your hands FULL!
